TBI Role Model - Dream Catchers - with Les Paul - BIRN

from Z Z Archive 2014 · host Brain Injury Radio

Me a role model, me really? Are you kidding? Well that’s how I felt when I was asked to start a brain injury support group being a survivor. Much like a Texas cowboys grabs a bull by the horns we as TBI survivors have to take the bull by the horns and the bull’s name Brain Injury and Lasso that bull and conquer it and the bull’s name is stop Dissing My Abilities. Plain and simple with the survivors have sat on the sidelines of life struggling in pain, desperate for solutions and answers for our quest for true independence and recovery! Join me tonight because we the survivors have got to stop that I can’t do it in brain injury awareness and take a lead role in how our health care is provided in what agencies we choose and select and who has the right to tell us what we can or not do. Becoming a role model is becoming a leader in brain injury greatly needs survivors to step up to the plate and take a chance and make a difference even if you feel you can’t try anyway! He leads 2 brain injury support groups, one being the CSRA Dream Catchers which affiliated with the Brain Injury Association of South Carolina in North Augusta and 2nd being the Augusta brain injury support group, which is affiliated with the brain injury Association of Georgia, each group is a dedicated team of survivors who just don’t understand the word no, and can’t! We are about inclusion for all, Advocacy for everyone, and empowering people with traumatic brain injuries and related disabilities to understand the peer to peer role in a support group, which can be one person meeting with another or in other ways. It can be large groups of people meeting to advocate either way, or support is very powerful!
