On April 9th, TCU's Horned Frogs just took a big hit on their roster. Sophomore forward, David Punch, their 6'7", 246-pound power forward, is entering the NCAA transfer portal after a breakout season. He started all 34 games, led the team with 14.1 points per game on 50.3% shooting, grabbed 6.8 rebounds, and swatted 1.9 shots a night. That earned him all Big 12 Honorable Mention honors.
Over two years at TCU, Punch played in 66 games with 61 starts, putting up career averages of 10.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.4 blocks, 1.3 assists, and .9 steals per game. His second season was a huge leap, especially on defense and as a go-to scorer. Fans saw his best stuff late in the year. In the Big 12 tournament, he dropped 25 points per game on 58.6% shooting, 5 rebounds, and 3 blocks over 2 contests.
That carried into March Madness, where he posted a double-double of 16 points, 13 boards, and 3 blocks to beat Ohio State, 66-2. 64 in the first round, TCU's first tourney win since 2023. Punch hails from Harker Heights, Texas, as a 4-star recruit ranked No. 6 in the state and No.
108 nationally. He picked the Frogs over NC State and Penn State, but now he's one of several TCU guys hitting the portal this offseason, including Jace Posey, RJ, Jones, and the Edwards brothers. With two years of eligibility left, Punch should pull major interest from programs everywhere. This shakes up TCU's future, but it's the portal life.
Keep an eye on where he lands next.
