On April 9th, TCU's top scorer, David Punch, is hitting the NCAA transfer portal as a sophomore power forward with two years of eligibility left. The 6'7 standout led the Horned Frogs this past season, dropping 14.1 points, grabbing 6.8 rebounds, and swatting 1.9 shots per game while starting all 34 contests. Over two seasons in Fort Worth, he started 61 of 66 games, putting up 10.4 points, 5.6 boards, 1.4 blocks, 1.3 assists, and .9 steals a night. Punch saved his best for March, averaging 25 points on nearly 60% shooting, plus 8.5 rebounds and 3 blocks in big 12 tournament action.
He also balled out in the NCAA tournament's first round with a double-double, 16 points, and 13 rebounds, and a tight win over Ohio State. Folks remember him as that gritty four-star recruit from Texas, ranked top 100 nationally out of high school, in Colleen. But his season ended rough against Duke in the second round, when he took a brutal elbow to the face from Cam Boozer, got bloody bad, and had to. Leave briefly before fighting back for 30 minutes.
With Punch on the move, TCU faces a big hole up front, and he's primed to light it up wherever he transfers next.
