In his somewhat imaginative history of the Craft, Anderson mentions several assemblies of Masons; but there is no real evidence that there had ever before been such a thing as a Grand Lodge. Probably they had in mind the annual gatherings of the great London Companies, and wanted to establish something similar for themselves.
