Do you? 紅茶、綠茶、珍珠奶茶! 台灣到處都有飲料店,我們喝掉很多茶。 We buy about one billion cups of bubble tea every year in Taiwan. We use lots of tea leaves! What happens to them? 台灣每一年喝掉超過十億杯的珍珠奶茶,用過的茶葉會怎麼處理呢? Almost all tea shops throw away tea leaves. Thousands of kilograms go to landfills every day. 幾乎所有的飲料店都會把茶葉渣丟掉。每天有好幾千公斤的茶葉渣被倒進垃圾掩埋場。 The leaves rot and make a gas. The gas makes the Earth hotter. 茶葉渣腐爛後排放的氣體還會讓地球暖化。 In Northern Ireland, a part of the UK, people drink a lot of tea too. A researcher there found a way to reuse tea leaves. He makes them into a product that cleans dirty water! 北愛爾蘭的人也喝很多茶。有人研究發現,用茶葉渣做成的產品可以淨化髒水。 This tea leaf product takes out heavy metals from water. Heavy metals are bad for health. Some can cause cancer. Cleaner water helps people and animals be healthier. 重金屬對人的身體有害,有的還可能引發癌症。這個產品可以帶走水裡的重金屬物質。 After the tea leaf product is used, it can be reused to make batteries!
