TEACH NO OTHER DOCTRINE (part 5) A SERIES ON THE FUNDAMENTALS OF OUR FAITH 1Timothy 1:3 As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightiest charge some that they teach no other doctrine. 1. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS SERIES? a) ~Fundamental~ - Forming a necessary base or core; of central importance. A central or primary rule or principle on which something is based. b) We will learn from the scripture the doctrines that we need to establish, proclaim, stand upon, & defend. c) Being fundamental is not a bad thing, but that word has been given a bad rap. d) These doctrines need to be based on the scripture and not man’s opinion. e) These are doctrines that we find clearly taught and defended in scripture. We do not stand on opinions from a single debatable verse. A Final Judgment 2. WHERE DO WE FIND IT IN SCRIPTURE a) God loves judgment - Psalm 33:5, 37:28, 89:14, 99:4, Prov 21:3, Isaiah 61:8, b) God’s Judgment is righteous – Deut 4:8, 16:19, 25:1, Psalm 19:9, Isa 9:7, 33:5, c) A judgment of the righteous and the wicked – Rom 2:1-11, Psalms 62:12, Jer 17:10, Rev 20:12-13 d) An eternal judgment given to the Son – John 5:19-30, Dan 12:1-2, Matt 25:31-46. 3. WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT? a) There is a reality of rejecting God, an eternal judgment -2Thess 2:9-12 b) Universalism is wrong and we need to know why. c) We should have a heart to see people saved and not face an eternal judgment – Rom:10:1, 1Cor 9:19-22, 1Tim 2:4. 4. WHY WE NEED TO DEFEND THIS a) We need to let men know that there is a judgement for rejecting God and his word. b) There are organizations that teach all men will be saved, no everlasting judgment – CUA, UUA. c) Our responsibility is to teach and uphold the truth – 1Tim 2:4, 3:15.
