TEACH NO OTHER DOCTRINE (part 4) A SERIES ON THE FUNDAMENTALS OF OUR FAITH 1Timothy 1:3 As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightiest charge some that they teach no other doctrine. 1. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS SERIES? a) ~Fundamental~ - Forming a necessary base or core; of central importance. A central or primary rule or principle on which something is based. b) We will learn from the scripture the doctrines that we need to establish, proclaim, stand upon, & defend. c) Being fundamental is not a bad thing, but that word has been given a bad rap. d) These doctrines need to be based on the scripture and not man’s opinion. e) These are doctrines that we find clearly taught and defended in scripture. We do not stand on opinions from a single debatable verse. CREATION 2. WHERE DO WE FIND IT IN SCRIPTURE a) Some clear passages – Genesis 1, John 1:1-3, Col 1:16, Heb 1:2. Exo 20:11, Isa 42:5 b) He created with his words – Gen 1:3,6,9,11,14,20,24,26. Psalm 33:6-9, 148:4-6, 2Peter 3:5-7 c) God laid the foundations of the earth – Job 38:4-6, Psalms 102:25, 104:5, Zech 12:1. And spanned the heavens – Job 9:8, 104:2, Isa 42:5, 48:13, Jer 10:12-13, Heb 1:10. d) Contrary to Evolutionist, God created man “In the beginning” – Gen 1:26-28, 2:7, 5:2, Job 33:4, Matt 19:1-6, 3. WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT? a) It shows God’s power and that he is real – Rom 1:18-25, Acts 14:8-17, 17:22-28, Psalms 19:1 b) It can give you piece of mind from bad science: • Global warming (We are all going to burn up) – Genesis 8:22, Psalms 74:16-18, Jer 33:20 Cf Jer 31:35 • There will be a day when heaven and earth pass away, but it will only be the wicked that burn and this will be done by God – Matt 24:35, 2Pet 3:10-13, Rev 21:1. • The sea levels will rise and flood the earth – Gen 9:11, Isa 54:9, Job 26:10, Jer 8:22, c) It answers the question “where did we come from?” – Big bang, Primordial soup, evolution, are all false. The Bible gives you the answer of where we came from and the purpose. 4. WHY WE NEED TO DEFEND THIS a) “Biblical inerrancy” Defending Creation is defending the Word of God – If Genesis 1:1 is wrong, how can we trust the rest of scripture? Deut 31:24-26, John 5:46-47. b) Defending this gives the glory to God as the one we worship and not the creature itself – Rom 1:25, Jer 2:27 c) Jesus, Paul, others wrote about creation – Mark 10:6, 13:19, Acts 17:22-28, Heb 1:10 – If evolution is true then their witness is false. d) Creation is the beginning of teaching us about the person and work of the Son of God – Col 1:16-17, John 1:3.
