Teachability Part 9 When Growth Requires You To Unlearn

What if some of the greatest obstacles to your growth are not the things you do not know, but the things you are already convinced are true? In Part 9 of our Teachability series, Apostle Bardwell examines what happens when spiritual growth requires more than receiving new information and demands the humility to reconsider what we have carried for years. Beliefs inherited from family, church culture, denominations, respected leaders, personal experiences, and tradition can become so familiar that we stop examining whether they are actually consistent with Scripture. Familiarity does not establish truth, sincerity does not guarantee accuracy, and longevity does not make an interpretation infallible.This episode challenges us to bring our theology, traditions, experiences, cultural assumptions, ministry practices, and even our understanding of God back under the authority of His Word. Unlearning is not about questioning everything until nothing remains certain. It is about allowing Scripture to preserve what is true, refine what is incomplete, and remove what is wrong. A genuinely teachable believer must possess both the courage to learn and the humility to unlearn, because if Jesus is truly Lord, nothing we believe is entitled to remain untouched simply because we have always believed it.
