Email us at [email protected] if you are a teacher and would like an opportunity to be on an episode of, "Teacher Talk." Are you concerned about your students’ behaviors? Is their behavior impacting the IEP goals that you write for next year‘s teacher? Today’s podcast is all about “teacher talk“ with Michelle Macllean who is a veteran special education teacher and parent of a neurodiverse and neurotypical child. She talks about how the IEP process is moving away from goals that represent academic skill building because addressing behavioral needs has taken a priority. For example, task initiation is problematic for many students and lacking the independence of knowing when they are off task is evident in the classroom. Michelle talks to you about how she explicitly teaches the cognitive skills supported by specific visuals to promote student independence and their ability to become aware of when they are not knowing when they are not focused. We hope you enjoyed this candid conversation between two teachers and will contribute by becoming a guest or commenting on this episode! Thank you for all you do! About Michelle: Michelle MacLellan is a special education teacher who has been in the field for over 17 years. Teaching primarily English and literacy skills, she has worked in a variety of settings including Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT), self contained, Resource Room (RR), and Wilson Reading Instruction. Michelle is a mom of two: a neurotypical 11 year old daughter and a neurodiverse 7 year old son. It was her role of mom that initially led her down the executive functioning path searching for strategies to use at home. That journey has blended with her professional life as she integrates strategies from home and school to help both her students and her own children. New exciting news!
