Teacher’s Trial Exposes Past Settlements | Calgary News

An 82-year-old teacher, Fred Archer, stands trial for sexual assault allegations dating back to the 90s, involving a teenage boy. The defense claims the accusations are fabricated, pointing to financial settlements paid to over 50 former students by the Calgary Board of Education. The boy’s father took the stand, revealing his son had a history of fabricating stories—including false claims against him—and struggled with behavioral issues after his mother left. Archer, who was a trusted friend and even hosted the boy for months, allegedly undermined the father’s parenting by letting the boy stay out late. Despite repeated questions, the boy denied any misconduct with Archer, who even gifted him a car for just one dollar during a time of family hardship. The case raises deeper questions about accountability, trust, and the lasting impact of abuse in educational settings.
