Teaching Isn't a Checklist
from Pedagogically Speaking · host Ilana Huffer
I read a TES article by Sam Gibbs titled "How we dumbed down teaching - and what we must do to fix it" and I really appreciated the article. In this episode I talk about what it means to be a professional in education, what some people want it to mean, and the struggle we can feel when we know what to do, but we have to follow along with a script or a checklist. I also talk about the role of evidence-informed practice and the intellectual work of teaching, highlighting the need for professional development to support teachers' judgment and decision-making, rather than focusing less on teacher judgement, and more on the latest trend tool or strategy.
