Tearing down my past
from Poetry by Tim Windisch · host Tim Windisch
Tearing down my pastI almost drove straight into the ditchUttered a barely audible son-of-a-bitchTo no one in particularAnother golden page from a better long gone dayDismantled and razed cause they have to make wayTears are falling in my carMy whole family was a part of this placeThose folks always had a smile on their faceDowntown Fussville farmWhile progress creates many pretty thingsThere’s a heavy sadness in my heart it bringsCause they can’t match the charmMy mom and dad were very close friendsI pulled my phone and adjusted the lensNot easy to do while you’re driving and cryingSo many new places, but they all look the sameCountless new faces, I’m sad yet happy I cameThe memories live on, though the buildings are dyingMom always said one day I would missAll of these things, we’re left to reminisceCherish the days make the memories lastHold on to each other, hold that thought so tightProgress be damned, nothing about it feels rightAll I see is them tearing down my pastTim Windisch6 15 2026
