Tech Leader Pro podcast 2024 week 5, AI is great but start with a cron
from Lead Prompt Podcast · host John Collins
Today I want to convince you that you should start using scripted automation before complicated AI. Notes: Computers are automation machines, and the ultimate expression of automation is AI. However, you should start using scripted automation before complicated AI. Sometimes a cron job and a script is all of the automation you need. In terms of automating existing manual processes, the steps are: Identify manual processes that are good candidates to automate. Try to automate with simpler, non-AI tools first (sometimes scripting is enough). If 2 fails, explore AI but remember: your AI is only as good as your model, and your model is only as good as your data. The development cycle for a new AI solution is: Source the data. Build a new model. Adjust the weights. Apply an algorithm. After that, you feed input and hope you get back intelligent, high-quality answers. The development cycle for a new AI solution is long and complex, so should not be embarked upon for trivial use cases. To do so is overkill. What I am working on this week: Alpha Framework version 4.0 with support for PHP 8.1 - hitting CI/CD issues with PHP Unit coverage integration with Codecov. Media I am enjoying this week: Escape from Tarkov Notes and subscription links are here: https://techleader.pro/a/631-Tech-Leader-Pro-podcast-2024-week-5,-AI-is-great-but-start-with-a-cron
