Techtopia 339: Ukrainian media success on X and Telegram ENGLISH VERSION

Kyiv Independent is an independent digital media outlet that delivers news from Ukraine in English to millions of readers globally via platforms such as X and Telegram. Here, the war between Russia and Ukraine is covered closely. As the name suggests, journalists at the media take pride in being independent. The Kyiv Independent is also partly owned by the employees. In November 2021, all journalists at the Ukrainian newspaper Kyiv Post were fired by the owner, who was dissatisfied with their critical coverage of the Ukrainian authorities. The journalists would not let their news coverage be controlled by the owner, who then chose to fire them all. Instead of giving up, the fired team founded a new media outlet that they called the Kyiv Independent. Jnomics, an international media consultancy with Ukrainian roots, co-founded the publication and just three months after the Kyiv Independent was launched, Russia invaded Ukraine. The Kyiv Independent is published in English and has become an important source of news from Ukraine for millions of people around the world during the war against Russia.
