Temptation | Week 2

from Bannockburn Church · host Bannockburn Church

James 1:13–16 (NIV) When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. Tests – πειρασμός Tests reveal our core. Tests reveal our competency. Tests reveal our capacity. Tests are opportunities to develop our character. Temptations are testing grounds! Passing the Test of Temptation: No justifications. Own it. Understand the progression. Identify weaknesses. Establish boundaries. Re-route desires. Proverbs 4:14–15 (NIV) Do not set foot on the path of the wicked or walk in the way of evildoers. Avoid it, do not travel on it; turn from it and go on your way. Philippians 4:8–9 (ESV) Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
