'Tener dolor de cabeza puede invalidar' | Cefalea | Podcast

La cefalea es el dolor localizado en la zona de la cabeza, aunque también puede afectar a la zona alrededor del ojo, incluso extenderse a la cara.    El primer concepto que tener presente es que el cerebro nunca duele. Cuando decimos que nos duele la cabeza, estamos señalando al nervio trigémino. El nervio trigémino tiene tres ramas con terminales que llegan hasta los vasos sanguíneos, intra y extra cerebrales, a las meninges, a la cara, a los ojos y a la boca. Cuando se estimulan los receptores de estas terminales, se envía el mensaje al núcleo cerebral (tálamo), que a su vez conecta con otras zonas del cerebro que manejan la conciencia del dolor y la respuesta emocional. Existen dos grandes grupos: el 90% corresponden a cefaleas primarias, en las cuales la cefalea forma parte de la misma enfermedad. Y un 10% solo corresponden a cefaleas secundarias, en las cuales el dolor de cabeza es un síntoma más de otra enfermedad. Dentro de este 10% de cefaleas secundarias, realmente el porcentaje de enfermedades graves es pequeño.    Para diagnosticar la cefalea, no suelen hacer falta pruebas.
