Tensions rise between Venezuela and the US

from ARN Stories · host Annenberg Radio Stories

Tensions in the Caribbean are rising with the conflict between the United States and Venezuela. After more than 20 strikes on alleged drug boats, President Trump is threatening to escalate the situation by conducting attacks on land. Meanwhile, Nicolas Maduro continues to hold power in Venezuela and is asking for peace in the region. This is despite claims by human rights groups that Maduro is oppressing his opposition. Recent polls show most Americans oppose US military intervention in Venezuela. However, polls in Venezuela show a majority of Venezuelans are in favor of regime change, even if it involves an international military intervention. We spoke with Marshall professor Marco Aponte Moreno for more insight.
