Terps Face Hampton in Opening Statement | Maryland Terrapins Football News

Maryland’s season opener against FCS rival Hampton is more than just a game—it’s a make-or-break moment for head coach Mike Locksley, whose job security hinges on a winning record and bowl eligibility. With the Terps hungry to break scoring droughts and snap a recent defensive funk, they’ll face a young, inexperienced Hampton squad led by new coach Van Malone. Hampton’s offense is explosive but unproven, while Maryland’s defense, still adjusting without key cornerback Dontay Joyner, could be tested early. This matchup at SECU Stadium at 8 PM ET on the Big Ten Network could set the tone for a season that might finally deliver the turnaround fans have been waiting for.
