Terrifying & True | The Battle of Los Angeles — 1,400 Shells, No Enemy Aircraft

The Battle of Los Angeles sent more than 1,400 anti-aircraft shells into the night sky in February 1942, yet no enemy aircraft was confirmed. A wartime blackout, sweeping searchlights and conflicting official explanations turned a coastal air-raid alarm into an enduring UFO mystery. Terrifying & True follows the panic after Pearl Harbor and the nearby Ellwood shelling, then examines the balloon explanation and the photograph that helped fuel decades of speculation. What did the guns actually target—and how much did fear shape what people saw? We're telling that story tonight.
