Terrifying & True | The Chupacabra — From Puerto Rico’s Goat-Sucker to America’s Mange Coyotes

How did Puerto Rico’s spined “goat-sucker” become a hairless canine in American headlines? Terrifying & True follows the chupacabra from reported livestock attacks and sightings in 1995 to later encounters in the mainland United States. Henrique Couto explores witness descriptions, the legend’s spread and investigations of animals presented as evidence. Some celebrated specimens proved to be familiar canids, often with mange; that finding is distinct from proving a supernatural creature exists. A deep dive into modern cryptid folklore and the changing shape of a monster.
