Texas Tech’s star-studded defense was among the nation’s best (10.9 ppg, 254 ypg, 4.0 yards per play). Linebacker Jacob Rodriguez (finished finished fifth in the Heisman voting; won Nagurski and Bednarik; had seven forced fumbles, four interceptions) was the country’s best defender. He had lots of help from All-American defensive linemen David Bailey (13 1/2 sacks) and A.J. Holmes, plus, All-Big 12 picks Romello Height (10 1/2 sacks) and Brice Pollock The Red Raiders' offense put up 42.5 points and 480 yards per game and averaged 6.4 yards per play. First-team All-Big 12 QB Behren Morton (22 TD, 4 interceptions) led the way thanks to a host of play-makers that included running back Cameron Dickey (Cameron Dickey (1,095 yards, 14 TD, 216 rec. yards), wide receivers Reginald Virgil (676 yards, 6 TD) and Caleb Douglas (846 yards, 7 TD)and All-American lineman Lee Hunter and All-Big 12 guard Davion Carter.
