Texas Tech's Thin Roster Faces Big 12 Test | Big 12 Basketball News

Texas Tech basketball braces for a tough season without star forward JT Toppin, who’s sidelined by ACL surgery and may redshirt 2026-27. With the Big 12 heating up and Coach McCasland opting for a tight, seven-to-eight player rotation, every guy on deck must deliver from day one. Cruz Davis steps into point guard duties after Anderson’s NBA exit, while transfers like Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn and Damarion Dennis, plus freshman DaKari Spear, are expected to fill key roles. Returning players Moseley, Akuentok, and Hoover will carry the load if Toppin sits out. Freshman Amari Barrett joins the ranks, but roster depth remains a concern. In one of college basketball’s toughest conferences, Texas Tech’s success hinges on cohesion, consistency, and clutch performances from a small, stacked group.
