TGE Ep 65 – Women of Game of Thrones Panel at GeekGirlCon 2018

from The Geek Embassy · host Regina McMenomy

If you’ve ever wanted to listen to some of the ambassadors for The Geek Embassy wax poetic about the women of Game of Thrones, now is your chance! Nicole, Isabela, and I were joined by authors Andrew and Demetria at GeekGirlCon 2018 to discuss what we love and hate about the women of Game of Thrones. It was truly an honor to be on this panel and to be featured on the main stage. We had a great audience and an engaging conversation. Panel Description So Different Yet Still the Same: The Women of Game of Thrones Game of Thrones isn’t particularly kind to any of its characters, but the women generally get abused more than the men. Their individual circumstances and personalities help them fit nicely into different literary archetypes. But despite their differences, they all share some archetypes as well. Join us as we explore the character arcs of the major female characters taking a look at where they came from, where they’ve been and why they have more in common than you might think. Panelist Bios Nicole Tanner Nicole is a geeky mom, aspiring novelist, and lover of all things gaming. She’s spent more than 15 years talking about video games, so it’s only natural that she’s turned her attention to a different “game.” Nicole loves the opportunity to geek out about Game of Thrones. (She needs something to do while waiting for the next season.) Regina McMenomy Regina is the founder and head geek at The Geek Embassy. Studying and writing about geeks and geek culture is Regina’s favorite thing to do when she’s not reading student papers, dancing an excessive amount of calories away, or chasing after her daughter. Inclined towards social and mobile gaming, Regina also loves a good round of 7 Wonders, Qwirkle, Small World, or Lords of Waterdeep. Someday, she hopes to actually take part in a D&D campaign so she can officially roll a character and role play her as a devious, highly intelligent mischief maker, which would be nothing like she is in real life. Isabela Oliveira Isabela Oliveira is a renaissance geek, in the sense that she knows a little about a whole lot of things, including cosplay and podcasting. She is always looking for the next great television show to marathon and for the next exciting thing to learn about. In her spare time, she works as an editor for The Geek Embassy and gets involved in as many geeky projects as possible.  Demetria Spinrad By day, Demetria is the managing editor of Tuck.com, a comprehensive site about sleep hygiene, health, and wellness. By night, she writes the science fiction serial Astra Nullius, practices martial arts, and reads every book she can get her hands on. Andrew Buckley Andrew Buckley is a traditionally published author of rather silly, yet enjoyable fiction for adults, teens, and tweens. As an ex-pat Brit living in BC, Canada, Andrew is a passionate nerd, movie-lover, avid reader, comic book geek, public speaker, podcaster, and dances a mean cha-cha. His upper middle grade novel series HAIR IN ALL THE WRONG PLACES (Books #1 & #2) are available now from Month9Books with Book#3 coming Fall 2018.
