Thank You For Helping Me Combat the Tidal Wave of Republican Lies

Hello Friends!By far the most common comment I get is something along the lines of, “Walter, what can we do to help?” Every time I hear this, it truly elevates my spirit. Above all else, I want you all to know that there are good people out there. In fact, there are an overwhelming number of good people out there. All they need is a slight push to activate them and turn them into forces of justice.The regime we’re facing knows this and it’s terrified. That’s why it constantly sows the seeds of chaos. The last thing they want is for us to get organized. That’s why they’ve grabbed control of every political office, the entire legacy media, and the majority of social media platforms.Still, we are resisting. The reason we are able to resist is because we have truth, love, decency, and justice on our side. No matter how much history white supremacists attempt to erase, no matter how many books the fascists burn, they are unable to change the reality of their insignificance.Look at the pathetic little nepo baby in the Oval Office. This is a person who is incapable of assembling something as basic as a two piece Lego set. He’s the poster child of white supremacy. He’s a man that’s completely inept, yet he’s been handed nothing but wealth and privilege and ease his entire life.When the history books are written about this time, the joke will be on him. He is the one who has finally exposed the lie of white supremacy. His face will forever be known as the ultimate human representation of hatred and incompetence. It’ll be him.But for the time being, he’s still slithering along upon a trail of his own goo. For the time being, he’s still making decisions that hurt children and the innocent. He’s a force of lies and manipulation, and we have to fortify ourselves against his encroachments.As always, friends, I turn to you. What’s become overwhelmingly clear in these last 380 days of constant crisis is the fact that we’re not powerless like they try to make us believe.Yesterday in a live with the brilliant Margaret Williams, MS, ACC, I told the story about how baby elephants are tied to a stake with a rope. When they are immature, they lack the strength to break the rope. This memory persists when they grow into their strength, and as adults, they don’t even try to break free.That’s conditioning.That’s the kind of grooming that’s needed for a powerful creature to endure a lifetime of abuse.The American people have been shackled in the same way. The bonds that are preventing us from grasping our power are frail and weak. All we have to do is flex our muscles and the fibers will shatter into dust.We are powerful! That’s why the monstrous Republican party spends every day fueling a tidal wave of lies to keep us broken down and miserable.First, we must shout them into silence. Then we must elevate voices of compassion, reason, and decency.I know that I flood your inboxes with content. Every day I spend my time elevating as many important voices as possible. I cry and crash out and scream until my voice is reduced to a raspy growl. Sometimes I feel like a drop of water in a roiling ocean.But I’m no longer one drop. I went from one to two, and then two to four, then four to eight. With every doubling our strength magnifies. Today, the regime is desperate and thrashing because they are afraid of us.They are afraid!They’re only going to get more desperate and destructive until they are stopped. There is no protection in compliance. We have to stand up, resist, and protect the innocent.We have to stand up and demand this regime provide assurances that child rapists are not being hired into the ranks of ICE. What assurances do we have that’s not happening? They don’t tell us who these men are. They hide their identities.What are they hiding from us?We have to stand up and demand this regime provide assurances that children aren’t being tortured and raped and murdered in detention centers. If the people are being treated humanely, why don’t they let us in? Why do they hide?What are they hiding from us?But again, I want to come back to the question of what can you do?First, recognize that you have power. Examine the internal resistance you feel when you are provided an opportunity to speak out. We all experience that feeling. We have all been indoctrinated by Republican lies to abdicate our power in deference to a cruel authority.Push through that feeling! Break the rope that was tied around your ankle in your infancy. It’s not part of you. It’s an abomination. Free yourself. You can live without it.In fact, without it, you can fly!It starts with a single word. The first act of resistance is the hardest. Go and ask somebody a simple question.“What assurances do we have that ICE isn’t raping children in their detainment facilities?”Ask somebody that! Ask them. If they get hostile, recognize that they’re just trying to tighten the rope. If you’ve broken the rope, that hostility loses its power.Go to somebody you hope is an ally first. They might embrace you. They might cry out and say, “Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Oh my God, I thought I was alone!”Then you’ll find yourself twice as powerful!Try these things. Every act is a drop in the bucket, but soon the bucket will be overflowing. Friends, we don’t have to wait for the midterms. We don’t have to wait for the primaries. We don’t even have to wait until lunchtime. You can stop reading this right now and go send somebody an email. Forward them this article. Say, “This is what Democracy looks like! This is what compassion looks like! This is what FREEDOM looks like!”Fight the tidal wave of Republican lies!Everybody has been saying the same thing since the beginning. Nobody is coming to save us. But where that comment made me fearful in the beginning, today I see it as a declaration of strength.Nobody is coming, but we don’t need anybody.We are powerful.Say it with me, “WE ARE POWERFUL!”Resistance is a state of mind. Every moment you think a thought of justice, the regime endures another wound. We’re toppling down the mechanism of indoctrination that forced us to be enablers of injustice. Slowly, the sleeping giant is coming awake. We’re finding we’re no longer a powerless child. We’re fully formed adults and we can rip the bonds they’ve put upon us with ease.Feel your strength!We are going to win this because there’s no other option. We are going to keep fighting because we’re not about to abandon our children. We’re going to demand justice for the innocent because we can’t live with ourselves if we maintain a complicit silence!Go forth today and approach one other person.
