Thankfulness

Today we will be talking about thankfulness▪ Not just because Thanksgiving is tomorrow, but because it a commanded aspect of our livesConsider the verse: 1 Thess. 5:18 “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”1. As basic as this question is, I think it’s important to ask: what does it mean to give thanks to God?2. Why is giving thanks to God so significant that He says this is His will for our lives?3. Paul (God) doesn’t really mean “all” in these verses does he?4. How does the surrounding context relate to “give thanks in all circumstances”?Let’s read and talk through some other pertinent verses dealing with this topic▪ Colossians 3:17 “And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, givingthanks to God the Father through him.”▪ Colossians 2:6-7 “Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in himand established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving▪ Philippians 4:6 “...do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication withthanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”5. It seems like we might underemphasize the importance of thankfulness in the Christian life. Why is it soimportant?
