Welcome to the Tweep Trends Podcast. Hey, Evette, what's trending today? Hey, I mean that's pay girl! And you are tuned in to Tweep Trends.
It's the quickest way to find out what's trending today. It's Thanksgiving Week here on Tweep Trends. Let's get started. This is absolutely amazing, unbelievable, hard to believe.
I'm having issues trying to put it together in my mind that we are literally in the week of Thanksgiving. What does that mean? Well, for me, it means that I'm way behind where I should be right now as far as my holiday shopping, my holiday cooking, a little bit of everything has taken a hit, because I don't know where the time went. I feel like just yesterday's school was starting, and now all of a sudden, you mean to tell me that Thanksgiving is literally two days away, and then on top of that, that means that Christmas is only a couple of weeks away.
What in the world? I mean, seriously. So what we're going to talk about today, we got a little bit of gratitude to discuss, and you know this is the big shopping season, right? Big, big, big shopping season.
So we're going to talk about those things. And, you know, just the fact that, although this has been a really tough year, this has probably been, for those of us, for the majority of us, let me say that, for the majority of us, this has probably been one of the toughest years ever. But the fact that you are listening to my voice right now says something about you, says something about me, it says something about all of us. We are survivors.
We can do this. We can get through this, and the fact that this is the week of Thanksgiving, we should all have a whole heck of a lot of stuff to be thankful for. Because we have so much stuff to be thankful for, I want to start today's episode off talking about gratitude. Now, gratitude is that ability for us to be able to see and celebrate the good in everything around us.
And when I say around us, I don't mean just within arms reach, but literally everything in our world, everything that surrounds us, we should be able to look and see and notice and recognize the good. And society makes it difficult, because when you see the news, they like to talk about all the bad stuff. You hear about crimes and killings and robings and different things like that. You hear about how the COVID numbers are increasing.
And just a bunch of negative stuff. Very rarely do you get that golden nugget, that good, some narratives and story. You literally have to go look for that information. You have to find it, you have to seek it out, because nobody is bringing that to you and putting it on a plate and presenting it to you and say, look at all the good that's happening.
You're not going to get that. And so it makes it harder for us to notice the good around us when bad stuff is constantly being pushed right there in our face. But find a moment, find a way, find a time to just say, thank you. Stop comparing yourself to other people and other people's situations.
Stop going on Facebook and looking at what you think is this ideal situation that somebody else is in, because you might see that duck on top of the water, but you don't know what's going on underneath. And their little legs are probably flailing and just doing all sorts of crazy stuff, trying to move themselves across that lake. So just stop comparing yourself to other people because you don't know. And they may be at a smooth spot in their life.
You don't know that either, but you don't know what it took for them to get to that smooth spot. So stop the comparison, because that too makes it harder to be able to find things on your own in your own life to be grateful for. And the thing is, daily gratitude leads to more peaceful living. So there are things that we can do to try to get to a better place, to have an attitude of gratitude, to practice gratitude, because medical studies are saying that if you can do that, then you'll improve your levels of anxiety, depression, and life satisfaction.
Who doesn't want to have a satisfying life? So I got three gems for you, three things that I want you to try. First thing, daily, write down three good things. Three good things.
And if you've got a dry erase board, even better, because you can write those three things down for today, erase it, and the next day, write your next three things. Or you can keep a gratitude journal. You can put those three things down at the top, and then talk about the things in your journal that you are grateful for, that you see, that you know those are the good things that are in your life. And then that way, you can look back on it in one of those moments where you can't seem to find a single thing, look back in your gratitude journal and see, hey look, there's this, there's that, oh wow, I still got that going on now.
Hey, and then just pulls you right up out of the muckin' demire. And then a third thing is to write letters of gratitude to other people. So being able to be grateful to someone else, that's going to give you a good feeling. But then that letter that shows up out of the blue to that person that you are showing your gratitude towards, that's going to lift them up too, because you never know what people are going through.
People may be going through their worst day today, and that smile that you can give them, that little nugget of goodness, whether it's holding a door for them or something, that could be the thing that puts them back in the green. So consider it. Do something today, one, to show gratitude, to recognize the positive things in your life and that are going on around you, and then spread it out from there and share it with other people. There are so many things that I can just off the top of my head can bring to you right now and say, you know what, these are some things that you can start with.
I'm going to give you a starter list of things to be grateful for and to show gratitude for. The fact that this is the week of Thanksgiving and that you are listening to Twee Trans right now, that is an awesome thing to show gratitude about, you know? Black Friday, Cyber Monday, ways that you can stretch your dollars as you go into this holiday season, excellent ways and things to use to show gratitude about and for. Another thing, you may not even be aware of this one, so I'm going to put you onto something right here.
Drinksgiving, what do you know about it? Well, Drinksgiving is the day before Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Eve, if you will. And in holidays past, you know, of those years of your, the day before a big holiday such as Thanksgiving, that is the time that people from out of town will come back to their hometowns and meet up with their friends, usually at a bar, and what do they do? They have drinks while they reminisce about the old times, about the fun they used to have.
They're introducing their friends to maybe their new family, their fiance, their husbands and wives, and the other things, things like that. It is just a great time for people to come together, to fellowship with each other, and just share a good laugh. And that's what happens the day before big holidays like Thanksgiving. Well, this year is a little bit different because although there are some people that are traveling and you will find some people in bars, not so much all over the place because there are people that are trying to be respectful and trying to adhere to the social distancing.
However, you can still celebrate Drinksgiving. As a matter of fact, we're going to be celebrating Drinksgiving. If you come and celebrate with us, you know where to find me, hit me up and let me know, hey, vet, I want to join your drinksgiving party and hey, I got you. But we've actually done two pre-drinksgiving celebrations.
We actually called them Sipping Socials. We did one this past Sunday and we did one this Sunday before that just to kind of prime our people and be like, all right, what you think about this? How you feeling? How you feeling?
All right. And we'll see who shows up for drinksgiving tomorrow. But it's all about just reaching out, socializing, having fun. And in that, guess what?
You're going to see those things just all over the place, things to be grateful for. Things to make you smile, make you feel good. That's what it's all about. So, but if you are a Zoom hater, because there are people out there, I don't know if you've seen the hashtag, my Zoom Thanksgiving includes, but a lot of people's Zoom Thanksgiving includes not being on Zoom.
Hey, that's up to you, Bo. My Zoom Thanksgiving is going to include drinkgiving because we're going to have our drinksgiving celebration on Zoom. But you don't have to use Zoom. There's groups.
There's Hangouts. There's House Party. There's all sorts of ways you can just do old school and just get on the telephone and have one person three-way and another. You know how we used to do?
We used to be able to get a gang of people on a phone call just by figuring out, okay, now who's going to call the next person? All right, who's calling the next person? And so do it. There's always free conference call.com as well.
But all I'm saying is, take a moment, reach out, get in contact with those old friends, and it is just for a couple of minutes. That couple of minutes is going to do both of you, a world of good. Here's another tip for you. We're also on Thanksgiving.
We are going to do our Thanksgiving prayer together. And so we're inviting family to come together and we'll do the prayer, bless food. If anybody wants to say what they're thankful for, they can do that. And then we're going to leave our Zoom up and open so people can come and go as they please.
But it'll be just like having a drop in at your house. If somebody came to your door. When they come in the Zoom, hey, how's it going? Chat, chat, chat.
Keep it moving. 2020 has made it so that we have to stop and think and actually use that creative portion of our brain to think outside of the box and come up with new ways to interact with each other, new ways to show people how much we love and care about them, and new ways to support other people. So when you're getting all of your ideas together on what you're going to do to celebrate, how you're going to celebrate, don't forget to think and remember the reason why we celebrate. This is the time that we set aside to be intentional about giving thanks and showing gratitude.
And then from there, we just need to keep the ball rolling. Thanks for joining me on Tweet Trends today.
