Welcome to the Tweep Trends podcast. Hey, Evette, what's trending today? Hey, I'm Evette, hey girl. And you are tuned in to Tweep Trends.

It's the quickest way to find out what's trending today. Today, let's talk about the Met Gala. Let's get started. Before we get started, here's a question.

What do you call the common man's version of the Met Gala? A Halloween costume party, of course. I'm telling you, I have seen this stuff for so many years. Didn't know what it was, didn't understand it.

So I'm like, you know what? I've got this podcast, Why Not Dive Deep? And figure out what the Met Gala is, why they do it, and how come the celebrities outfits are always so bizarre? Let's start with this simple question.

What is the Met Gala? Well, the Met Gala is a charity event that's considered a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Arts Costume Institute. Wow, that makes so much sense now. It only makes sense to have a costume party for the Costume Institute's fundraiser.

Okay, I get it now, I get it. So now my next question though, is what happens at the Met? Because you see this red carpet, you get all these interviews on the red carpet, but then it's like you never hear anything else about what goes on at the Met. And basically, it's a secret.

So the guests that go to the Met Gala, they are supposed to abide by a no-phone policy, which means no social media, which means there aren't that many pictures from the inside of the Met Gala. Now, there are sometimes some people who sneak them in. There's lots of pictures of people in the bathroom because that's where they can actually take out their phones and take pictures of everybody. So it's crazy how there have been some pictures I've seen where it's a bunch of people just piled into the bathroom and they're posing in front of the mirror while somebody, I guess, sets up a phone or something and takes a picture of everyone.

Absolutely crazy. But digging a little bit more, there's a cocktail hour, there's a meal that's presented, and there's usually a very big name celebrity that performs during that time period. So I don't know, it sounds kind of intriguing now. You always see celebrities going, but could I go to the Met Gala?

Now to answer the big question, would I be able to go to the Met Gala? And the answer is a heck yeah, I could. Definitely, there's no reason why I couldn't. The only way I could get there though is that if I had complete amnesia and thought that I was a rich person, had money that I could just toss in the air and let it disintegrate before it hits the ground and just spend all willy-nilly and not have a care in the world.

That's the only way I could get a ticket today. But had it been back in 1995, I could have gotten a ticket for $1000. Yeah, it was a lot cheaper, even though I don't know that I would have done it back then, either. But that was around the time that Anna Wentor became a chairperson and the price skyrocketed after that.

So yeah, she brought the pain to the pocketbooks when she became the chairperson. But it's for charity, so it should be good, right? But now my question is, do the celebrities just have money like that? Do they need a tax write off that bad?

That they would go and spend that kind of money for just a couple of hours? Because from what I understand is, they go there, they don't stay long. And then after that, they go home, change clothes, and go to after parties. So they don't even stay in these costumes that long.

Yeah, so what about these celebrities? What about them? Are they paying for this event? And the answer is not all of them.

There are some A-listers who pay the amount, but the majority of the celebrities are invited to the event by a big-fashioned brand. And when they do, they'll say, hey, we want you to represent us at the Met Gala. We've got an outfit. We've been tailoring it, especially for you.

And you give them a thumbs up. Yep, I'll do it. Then the only thing you have to do is wear their outfit. And while you're on the red carpet, definitely talk it up, let everybody know who you're wearing.

And there you have it. So it's a win-win, innocent, because the brand is getting exposure. And the celebrities also getting exposure, sometimes literally though, because some of the outfits can be a little skimpy on occasion. But that's okay, because they're celebrities and they can do that sort of thing.

But yeah, so only some of them pay to actually go. And then others, the majority of them, get their way paid through the fashion house. Oh my goodness, I just had an idea. I'm willing to put money on it that the story of Cinderella was based on a young girl who wanted to go to the Met Gala, but she couldn't go, she was too poor.

She couldn't afford a table and she definitely couldn't afford a ticket. So there she is crying, her fairy-guied mother comes, gets her dressed up in this awesome costume, and sends her on her way. Not only does she get to walk the red carpet, but she also gets to do the cocktail hour. And then she gets to go into the main session and have dinner and just rub elbows with everybody.

Oh yeah, that story was about the Met Gala. No doubt in my mind. But thanks for joining me, thanks for listening. I appreciate you, I appreciate you, I appreciate you.

You know where to find me on social, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, at hey, even if that's at H-E-V-E-T-T-E, or just look for the hashtag, tweet trends. Oh, you know what? I don't think I ever said what the theme was. The theme for 2022's Met Gala was, In America, an anthology of fashion.

Whatever that means.
