The 2024 Movie Star Ranking: 35 Under 35

And this is the Big Picture, a conversation show about movie stars. It's been 18 months. Did you know this, Amanda? I did, because you said it at the other last podcast.

That's right. 18 months since our last 35 under 35 movie star ranking. This is our fourth time doing this exercise. We started making these rankings during the pandemic when we were bored, and there were no films coming out, and we decided as aging culture analyzers, we had a good feel for who was and was not a movie star in the world.

We've been told by fans of the show, we don't know what we're doing. I don't care. I persist. Once again, this exists in the universe of this podcast, which is me and Sean making things up.

So this is according to us. We had like a rousing discussion with some of our video producers before we started this podcast. They have some opinions. I have to tell you, they probably won't be considered.

Yeah, I checked that right, really. Movie stars, the reason they do this, obviously, was that we felt that they were waning in the culture and we were trying to lift them up in some ways. And I actually think in the four years since we started doing this, they actually do matter a bit more now. Maybe not quite to the extent when we were teenagers, but something is burbling.

We were in a transitional moment when we started this, and we were also in a moment of a thousand think pieces about what happened to movie stars. And what happened to movie stars was essentially Marvel, except for Deadpool. He has to be Ryan Reynolds. Oh, he does?

Does Venom have to be Tom Hardy? Well, we'll see. This will be the last chance for Tom Hardy, as we learned. We'll see after that.

Maybe not for Venom. Maybe not for Venom. Right. So that plus we were just kind of a generational gap.

You know, the 30-somethings were edging into 40-something, and many of the people that we are going to discuss today were still on Disney. No shots to Disney, very important. Training ground for basically all of our movie stars. Critical at this stage.

Yeah. So everyone has aged up a little bit. We are moving. I don't know if we're totally moving out of the superhero period, but it's tough times over at Marvel.

They haven't finished the Superman movie yet. James Gunn's still tweaking through it. So none of those people are on it. I think he just started on that movie.

You wouldn't know it, okay? You would think that he's just been in a lab shooting Superman for his entire life. That's fine. But you also have things like Dune, which at the time we identified as obviously a franchise phenomenon that is not superhero-related, that is big and bold and great, and also features, undeniably, like a new generation of movie stars.

And it was sort of like the movie doesn't work without the movie stars, and also they aren't really movie stars without this movie. So it's a fun time to talk about it, because Dune 2 looms large on this list. It really does. It actually crossed $700 million this past weekend, which was the threshold that I threw at you and Chris when we first talked about the movie, and I said, can this movie get over this number?

Because if it does, this is like mega success. Is there a separate spreadsheet where you just write down random numbers and planetary alignments through which you get... This powerful tool that God put inside of my skull keeps all of the box office tracking data. 18 months ago, did you know that?

What was 18 months ago? Can you even fathom the power? 18 months ago, so this is April, so that was like November 2022? It was November 2022.

That was the last time we did this. And in that time, probably in the last three, let's say seven months for the sake of argument, these are the movies that have happened and that have had success. Wonka, Dune Part 2 you just mentioned, Anyone But You, Bob Marley, One Love, Civil War, Immaculate, Love, Lies, Bleeding, and Challengers. Now, these are not the only successful movies, but all of those movies have success.

I was just guessing to the Challengers scores when you said Challengers. It's just like immediately. I feel like we could just do an SNL sketch where like anyone says Challengers and then they start playing and I just start like... I was playing it for my kid at home this weekend, it really worked.

She's like, what is this? Yeah, Knox did not like it in the car, but I did make a lot of videos of sports highlights of him to the Challengers score. It was really good. I think most people who watched it didn't understand the joke.

They just thought I was very proud of not snucking, which is fine. I'm seeing Jalen Brunson okie-dokie-dokie set to the sounds of the signal. I am not seeing that. I wasn't at home.

I just got mercy. You know, like, please help our family. Yeah, yeah. Please.

Water in the desert. But we're talking about this. Why are you a Sixers fan? Out of all the Philly things that you have forsaken, why the Sixers?

I love pain, you know? It's the closest I can get to a Mets fan experience in basketball, right? Just cursed. Awful management.

You just get close. There's talent, but it's just never enough. And I just need that in my life. For more or less a quarter century, this was also true for the New York Knicks.

Yeah. No longer. We are riding high on this Monday morning. Who will you face in the next round?

It looks like the Indiana Pacers. Is that good? Who got the Pacers? Tyrese Halliburton.

Pascal Siakam. Oh, I've heard of him. Former Toronto Raptors. Obi Toppin, former New York Knick.

Okay. I'm ready for 10 season. Okay. I'm ready for a movie star season.

Great. All of those movies that I listed, though, feature at least one person who appears on our list today. And some of them, that's not entirely true, more for her. We were like, give her the Bond movie.

They didn't, and then she graduated. To clarify for people listening at home, to qualify for 35 and under. No. No, under 35.

Under 35, that's right. So that's the thing. You have to be under 35. 34, yes.

35, no. What about 33? Yes. What about 37?

No. Okay. We've divided math here on the big picture. More math.

So we have a very specific calculus for deciding. As soon as we actually make the list. No, I think about it. I calculate it every time we think about one new person on the list.

What is the math? Do you remember the math? Yes. It's 50% things that you've done before.

So like the past. Your CV, your filmography. Yes. 25% what's in the cooker, what's coming.

And 25% start quality. You're right though, that like sometimes what's next wildly over-influences what you've done. Well, the problem is, is that what's next is still full of possibility. And often you're 50% of your CV.

We have a couple of great examples where it's like you have a lot of stuff and none of it panned out. There are Oscar winners on this list and I'm like, eh, I don't really think they got it. And they have an Academy Award. So yeah, it's a tricky thing.

So you want to talk about who's moved off and what's changed and what's shifted since we lasted this list. Because it's hard for people to become very famous in Hollywood at this level under the age of 30. Most of the people who end up making our lists are in that 29 to 34. Right, also we're really old at this point.

So like the 22-year-olds, we're like, who? It is true that I am increasingly having trouble locating 22-year-olds who will matter in the world. I think that's a good thing for me personally. I do think it is healthy.

Yeah, but again, the people listening at home, especially if you're Gen Z, you know, our list may not be what you see in the world and that's fine. One day you'll grow up and, you know, and be old and have your own opinions. Nine stars aged out from the last time we did this. Nine critical stars.

This is actually quite a powerful group of people who have moved on. You want to read them? Lashana Lynch, Simu, Anand Armas, Vanessa Kirby, our guy Glenn Powell, who I think really could have just catapulted to the top. He would have been very near the top and he is also now going to have an interesting battle in 35 over 35.

Another was pretty close to the top of the catapulted in Jesse Plennons, Zoe Kravitz, Emma Stone or Emily Stone. Here's what I'd like some clarity on. I know that that is her name and how she wants to be called in real life, but are we still, when professionally speaking about her, supposed to say Emma Stone or are we doing Emily Stone? I can relate to this.

I'd like to henceforth be known as Stephen Fennessey, which is my real name, but I had to change it because there was another podcaster named Stephen Fennessey. I would like to honor what Emily Stone, aka Emma Stone, but the rules have not been totally made clear to me. It's Hollywood, man. People are just doing it all the time.

Yeah, and Daniel Kaluuya. Remember when Prince was like, I'm a sign now in order to get out of my contract at Warner Bros. The Today Show in 1994 lost its mind over that. Do you remember how many magazine covers and Atlantic Think piece essays?

You only listen to the records when he was known as the symbol, right? You don't listen to anything before that? Yeah, exactly. Also aged out.

I don't know why I thought of these people, but I thought of two more people who would no longer qualify. Awkwafina, who like five years ago I think very easily would have made this list. I think she did five years ago? Maybe she did.

But she's kind of like taking on increasingly supporting comedic parts and we're not seeing as many movies like I've ever watched her. I mean, she had her moment and then it didn't quite convert movie-wise. I don't think I've ever heard you say a word about the actress Karen Gillan. So that's a Doctor Who thing, right?

She was in Doctor Who. Did you mention him? Yeah. Cuts.

These are the people who didn't make the list before we started the countdown. I feel good about who we're taking off last year's list. Yeah, the only one that is fairly egregious in terms of our math is Letitia Wright, who in the time since we last made this list literally became the new Black Panther in a movie that made millions and millions and millions of dollars. $800 million.

But it didn't do as well maybe as they hoped and there were extenuating circumstances that led to that decision and I think we all collectively feel now she wasn't put in a place to succeed. She doesn't have any films lined up in the near future and this was a factor for me. What she's doing next. She was a bit of a controversial figure and away from that franchise it seems like they'll let that franchise settle for a while now.

Biggest thing coming out of that movie I was like, man, I miss Chadwick Boseman. So that's not great for Letitia Wright's standing on this list. But this is an example of where you're 50% of you've done something and it was something big and it didn't. She's done some really good work.

And again, I think if 18 months ago and we kind of knew that probably she was going to be the next Black Panther but that would be weighted very heavily in the 25% of it and probably over-weighted in the look of what's coming. You know what I think she should do? Play Venom. Harry Styles.

We cut Harry Styles. Yeah, he was like our token 35 LOL spot last time. He was making movies. Yeah.

He was in the final cut sequence of Eternals. Remember that? He was going to be a Marvel superhero. He was in My Policeman which was your favorite film in 2021.

I did see that. Yeah, I saw it too. And we'll see something of course Don't Worry Darling which is a disaster. And I don't think he has another film planned.

He seems to overturn his music. And he was the specific disaster of Don't Worry Darling beyond the direction and ideas. He was playing Jordan Peterson loyalist in that film as our call. That wig and that facial hair that's a really funny reveal.

Stephanie Su, she is good. You haven't seen The Fall Guy yet. I have seen The Fall Guy. I don't want to do anything about The Fall Guy.

She's in The Fall Guy. She's working steadily. But she's in like nine minutes of it. And you're like, why is an Academy Award nominee Stephanie Su in this movie for nine minutes?

Right. And also the last time that we made the list she was not yet an Academy Award nominee but it was about to happen and you could really feel that in the air. Yes. She could come back.

She totally could. It's a little bit of a timing. It was a joyride last year. It was a very fun movie.

Fun movie but didn't really make it into the box office. So a little bit tough. You're for her. Joe Alwyn?

He's okay. He is in it a bit. It's almost a songwriter. Okay.

So a singer-songwriter that you may have heard of Taylor Swift recently released an album called The Tortured Poets Department. As I understand it, this album is the music equivalent to Kieslowski's The Decalogue. Is that true? Very long piece of work but very meaningful.

This is her show up. Yeah. They're 31 tracks. She just surprised released a double album.

I wouldn't say that Taylor Swift has cheated any of my calls about editing and making choices. But that's okay. She's still Taylor Swift. And going into the album we knew that it was a breakup album and we assumed that it would be about Joe Alwyn with whom she was in a relationship for like four or five, six years.

It's been like a very long time. And then it turned out that the majority of the album was about Matt Healy who she had what we thought was a dalliance after Joe Alwyn. So there's a lot of back reading now and the consensus theory is that she and Mattie have been an off and on thing for maybe a decade. How exciting.

And then it didn't get out and she's pretty pissed. So he takes most of the heat. Joe has, I think the Black Dog is about Joe and that's a good song. Okay.

But for the most part I think that if he wants to promote Kinds of Kindness now he probably safely can. She's called off the Swifties on Joe and sent them towards Matt Healy. Is that something that was actually enunciated? Not like in a way that I just said it but I think the signs are there the Swifties know how to read through stuff.

Interesting. Yeah. We'll come back to this issue. Also cut Jonathan Majors of course because he may never work in Hollywood again.

He has been revealed to be at a minimum a terrible person based on some recordings we heard maybe even something worse than that. I was a huge fan of his as a performer even as recently as having seen Creed 3. I felt that strongly about him as an actor and I think he really, really has an incredible talent but has gotten himself mired in some terrible things in his personal life and I would be surprised if he'll be back. In the Pipeline I'm kind of I'm all the twixt in between about this.

This is always the hardest part for me as an inveterate list maker what gets cut out. So in the Pipeline we've made some good choices in the Pipeline previously you can go back and look at our previous list. Here's who I've got for these people are coming up soon. Dominic Cessa.

He's only made one film The Holdovers. He left a very strong impression. He absolutely smashed awards season. He ended that list.

We wanted to recast him as Robert Zimmerman aka Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown. James Mangold declined our offer. And now all those spot rotsy photos are coming out. It's true.

We'll get to that too. Mikey Madison keeping my eye on her she is the star of Sean Baker's new movie and Nora. She was one of the stars of what is Pamela Amblin's FX show? I can't recall the name of it.

Four things. No. Something like that? Four something.

I can't remember. It doesn't matter. She also was one of the stars of Hollywood. She also was one of the stars of Scream 6.

Very better things. That's close. She's one of Pamela Amblin's daughters in the show. I've heard some good things about Sean Baker's movie.

I'm looking forward to it. I'm flagging her. You want to go? I would like to.

Honestly remind me later some interesting developments in my personal life that might require a trip to France. So let's sidebar that. It's an incredible life that I lead. Letting you lead your life.

Nicholas Galitzin? I don't know. I still haven't seen an idea of you. This is like a type of actor who's being cast in a type of roles that are supposed to be for me.

It's supposed to speak to me and it is not yet speaking to me. He was one of the stars of Red, White, and Royal Blue. Yeah, which no. I didn't think it was very good but it was seemingly a big hit for Amazon.

And I gave you also an Amazon film. The thing is that these streamers now are starting to develop their farm system. Right, but if he's Noah Centineo then Noah Centineo's not on any bar list. Last scene in Shazam!

Fury of the Gods which you also I think were a big fan of. I did I think watch some of that. I mean I fast forwarded it at home. I put Maya Hawke in the pipeline.

I just know she hasn't really led a movie of any significant scale yet. She's been great in supporting parts. Right, but isn't she She's very charming on Stranger Things. She's also, I mean she was in Maestro.

She was in Asteroid City. These are small parts. They're small parts but you're just like oh it's Maya Hawke. You know that it's coming.

And then isn't she one of the major voices of Inside Out 2? I don't know what major voices means. necessarily but she is she is one of the characters i mean you now you are the one disrespecting animation uh maybe just my hawk's participation in it i really like her i think she's very talented also just historically very pro nepotism and i think anybody whose parent is famous should get a real honest shot of this and i'm proud of her speaking of kai gerber also this is probably cindy crawford i thought surprisingly funny in bottoms i liked her she's really good yeah she's she's you can see her making moves yeah and also famously looking hot in like two frames of that one at the beginning yes that's right but that's really that's what we have yeah but she's kai gerber she's kai gerber uh gabriel abelle i'm not sure i would have remembered him from the famous if i had not just seen snack shack and i saw snack i was like that guy that guy put that guy in a real fucking movie soon because he's really great uh mahala i think we also could regret this i'm not totally sure probably depends on what happens in industry season three oh that's tv yes i know well she was just going to be a role behind her um yeah you know it's tv first kieran and shipka what's she up to she was in a also a big amazon streaming horror movie called totally killer that was kind of like a 80s homage like john hughesie back to the future style horror slacker movie that did very well and also i saw her love and she seemed to be very famous at that screening and surrounded by like nine people who were all there yeah yeah so you know she's like at capri club from time to time yes capri club yeah so i'm just like what i know about her is just on instagram and her like turning east side places that are supposed to be comfortable for middle-aged adults into that's not i'm sorry to break it to you that is not the energy of that place i was there early and i love it and she's welcome there too but i don't know what she's doing in movies is my point i just know what she's doing in her social life what about your girlfriend moana as i said in the back this is on you i thought she was in mean girls she was very good very good in that we'll see how moana too pans out does voice acting mean anything to you like can it ever mean anything for this list i mean i think it has a little bit in some of the people so yes sure that's and it's because the people the actors are associated with movies that people just talk about all the time in love and that's beautiful i see you at harris dickinson i woke up in the middle of the night i was like we forgot harris dickinson how tall is he he's tall how old is he he's young he's like 27 27 yeah should there be a height minimum for this list i mean he's gonna be in the movie with nicole kidman he's in blitz you know ironclad you loved it yeah he was wonderful yeah excellent uh he was in triangle sadness that was nominated for a lot of oscars yeah another film you love i just i'm just saying we have to rely on movies that we openly dislike to be like of course triangle sadness i didn't hate it as much as you did i just thought it was a huge step back for ruben uslin who i liked and i defended in the past and i was like ah shit you might be what i thought you weren't yeah it's a tough one we'll see he's actually had some very very fun he had a hilarious review of harvey it was just like this is the death of society it's very very funny uh teen subdivision do we need a teen category here or is this just weird we're old i like i don't care about any of these people you know any of these people are i know who finn wolfhart is i know he's actually not even a teenager i know who jacob he was like barely in the ghostbusters movie he's just there to like tell slimer to not eat pizza i was surprised by how not big apart mckenna grace was his counterpart mckenna grace she is good she sounded jacob trombley is the room guy uh yeah and the other thing that i know about jacob trombley so you know how rebecca ferguson subtreated one of her co-stars and then one of the great memes was like it's jacob trombley obviously joke i don't know anything about this young person the funniest thing about that meme is that jacob trombley is that jacob tromble and in the scene that they share together rebecca ferguson eats his soul and it's one of the scariest things you'll ever see she abducts a child off the street and kills him so hopefully i don't remember that did you see that yeah she wears a hat right rose a hat that was very good um okay now is the really like agonizing stuff yeah these are people i don't really understand why they're not on the list and i do understand but i don't understand like i can't accept it but also i made the list with you obviously and i'm like why did i not why am i not fighting for rachel senate i also love rachel senate one of the funniest people in the world but it's still her next thing is like she's the new lena donna like she's making the new girls like could it be more sites i think release all of it right now i mean more and just like that and give me rachel senate in girls gen z okay i honestly think this is a good idea for all culture but in this case in particular i think it's amazing i think rachel senate should just take over curb your enthusiasm like i think it should just make curb your enthusiasm but starring rachel senate she's not playing larry david she's playing herself but doing the same mode of improvisational comedy as she like grows it's like entourage meets curb your enthusiasm as she's becoming famous um incredible and bottoms incredible baby she's great yeah but you know there's two small any films and then like a bunch of tv so that's why i love bottoms bottoms well there will be bottoms representation on this list it's logical but i don't feel good about it steinfeld here's the thing hawkeye was a tv show correct and i don't know if they're making more of it she is going she was in a singer scene i remember in the marvels in the marvels that's right um so i think she's gonna play a pretty big part in marvel going forward but to your point earlier maybe that doesn't mean a whole lot she's dating josh allen that is that's cool quarterback for the buffalo bills who honestly is terrifying i hate playing against him just very upsetting to watch the jets play against what do they talk about why didn't i make a list josh do you think that hayley talks about how she can become part of taylor's like wag nfl wag group i mean she's in it right aren't they friends i i don't think that she's like in the box you think she's on the outside looking in well i mean she's a critical rival yeah so she's not there do you think hayley would be willing to break up her love affair with josh allen to get in the box i think that's a downgrade for her you know i think she's kind of like doing the jb taylor thing right now and she's got to write that as far as she can well they didn't win the super bowl mike feist yeah did you know that he already has a grammy and an emmy i did not know he has two of the four he has a grammy for both of them are for his participation in d-revin hansen which we won't hold against him but apparently you can win a daytime emmy for a live performance that you do on the today show which he did from d-revin yeah opposite ben black i don't know what the performance was i didn't click that far yeah that's right um i didn't know that yeah i don't know whether that i don't think that's a real egot situation okay you know well are you on the committee well it's like sports emmy daytime emmy these are not in the hallowed emmy they're not part of the prime time award ceremony i'm i don't really stay up i can't think about harris dickinson and not about what daytime emmy's i'm a huge mike feist fan and i really enjoyed all the mike feist uh social media this weekend there's a lot of him dancing great dancer i want to read you um some films from the next person we cut from this list um we didn't cut it not yet it's not yet gotten a spot on the list we cut him from the final list you know he was a contender i think i think more like we didn't elevate him yet oh that's a nice way of thinking about it here's some films that this person was in jurassic world fallen kingdom which one's that i don't know detective pikachu he's a star of you saw that right i did see that so does he play pikachu or is he like the pikachu is ryan reynolds that's not a joke oh yeah i do remember that and he plays a boy and so and like he like is the real boy who holds hands with all the pikachus and is like let's go south con that was the original title of the film they shortened it uh for marketing purposes he was the star of dungeons and dragons no we're keeping that away from alice for now just focused on disney princesses at the moment he's the fourth coming star of i saw the td glow 24 movie he was in the voyeurs opposite sidney sweeney he has been a lot of stuff his name's justice smith i don't think he's a household name at all and yet hollywood really likes it they keep casting him in these big movies he's been in a lot of movies in the last eight to ten years someone's got to say yes to detective pikachu but oh i disagree i think that was a hot property not to me but to somebody who wants on the time i think that movie is okay yeah what are its merits um i'm gonna mention that honestly i think so is the pikachu self-cribes he is a detective what is the nature of the crime uh it's a genocide he's came down here to see who's doing him he was the inspiration for the jesse fleming part okay uh he's out riley keog yeah you're a big man riley keog is elvis's granddaughter not sure if you knew that i didn't know that but she controls the state now yeah she is 34 years old in 340 days so it's just about over for her in terms of contention really love seeing her pop up in movies yeah she's wonderful she was also great on daisy jones and sex did you ever finish watching that i didn't it was pretty good though yeah it's a tv show though so flewood back though you know i'm a little this is mystifying to me but that's i was listening to flewood back on the way in what song little eyes okay great congrats riley keog for missing the list and to you for listening to the radio uh naomi haki didn't quite make it yeah she's she's interesting she's starring in blink twice the zoe kravitz direct directorial debut coming out this summer so that's pussy island rebranded pussy island rebranded to blink twice okay how do you feel about the title change pussy island was more memorable i agree and also it was like in the tabloid so much now that to me it will always be pussy island maybe you should just refer to it as such on the pod going forward let's do by the numbers before we officially get into our list yeah but this is spoilers okay i won't do biggest rise or biggest fall we'll do that at the end but there are 14 new entrants on our list for last time from 18 months ago how do you feel about that she's right okay no other commentary we're doing a podcast here you're the numbers guy right because i mean you're just gonna tell me do you do you feel like there could you could have had another life as like the movie stats guy the version of the baseball guy those movies i'm glad you're asking that baseball game they're like this is the fourth time that someone has like caught a ball in his hat on the left field line you know in pittsburgh in 1983 or whatever in a quiet moment of reflection this weekend i thought to myself we all know podcasting is all about asking your podcast partner questions but the best way to be a good podcast host is to ask questions you never ask good questions you only ask questions that are either insulting or diverting which is quite remarkable it's actually impressive skill uh you want to do the list i think they're amazing questions yeah you can start with the biggest fall because that will lead us to our number 35 great great point i chose this this was your call i knew this innately the biggest faller on our list now she's not off the list she's still on the list but the biggest fall right but position 35 is sort of like a joke position it's like we're putting you here to kick off the list with some energy and you'll be gone next year the biggest faller from 2335 is brie larson now we've gotten some charges against us that we're anti brie larson on pod probably yes listen what is it that doesn't click um the only thing that she's done in the last five years that i can remember is all the marvel movies and nissan commercials so i'm not really vibing with either of those projects i think in the last five years she's only made two films those films are fast x and the marvels oh yeah fast x not her fault but a true debacle for her she's giving a genuinely bad performance in fast x she's only acting with her eyebrows it's one of the weird yeah but i mean that she's also like clearly in a little green screen room that they set up on the set of one of the marvel movies you know like very makeshift and someone's in her earpiece reading whatever it's like not her fault again not put in a position to succeed but she did not succeed uh she didn't make a tv show in this time lessons in chemistry based on the hit novel oh yeah uh which i never watched but i listened to multiple episodes to watch describing events from the show it didn't sound like a good show no it was not a good book either okay the dog marries a lot the dog you like dogs i do like dogs yeah how's your rich dog going well it's a long-term project we're scouting we're scouting various breeds you know various lieges we have to go to scotland you know oh that was really fun uh relapse was 30 35 adria arhona finally my girl so you wanted her in almost exactly this spot 18 months ago yeah based on her work in six underground triple frontier and you've just seen father and and and and and was she had and where it was like eight years ago okay it was not eight years ago um you know i watched the first half of it was really good and then my husband just kept watching without me and i was like well there that goes she also was in the film morbius oh i didn't see that it wasn't good okay she's gonna be a hitman i've seen hitman she's she's appealing she's very beautiful and a lot of charisma she's very she's doing some interesting things in this movie this is this is we're weighted towards what you're about to do she's in a supporting part in zoe kravitz's like blink twice um i suspect after hitman she's gonna get cast in a lot of big parts yeah so this is kind of a this is a bit of a lottery ticket pick i think it makes sense to me i think 33 is kind of sort of a lottery ticket pick too this is the first edition of a euphoria cast member now you mean in this list we've had euphoria cast members yeah but that is that is their the dominant theme on this list is doing too and the the minor variation is euphoria i have a third oh and maybe it is the one which the twain shall meet yeah which is one time hollywood if you take two part two once upon a time in hollywood and euphoria which are you know three three things i like you're not a big euphoria fan but they seem to have been huge launch pads for a lot of people here so hunter schafer is number 33 hunter schafer she was in the hunger games about a songbird and snakes last year um she has a lot of stuff that movie was so long it was two hours and 19 minutes but yeah it felt long maybe it was two hours and 40 minutes it was it was really really longer than i needed to you don't like singing and despite songbird being in the title i didn't expect for rachel zeigler to be giving lumineers concert and she has a beautiful voice rachel if you're listening keep fighting the good fight but she has commented on this list before oh she has oh you're right yeah so i think she's having a tough time picking parts she's incredibly talented and i just went in with some different expectations about what that movie would be hunter schafer had a pretty modest part in that movie but this year won this summer cuckoo which looks like one of the most exciting horror movies of the year chris and i talked about it last week on the show she has a part in kinds of kindness the new york movie coming out in june she has mother mary which is the new david lowry movie that is coming out maybe at the end of this year starring in hathaway and she's also doing voice work in od now i normally would not talk about a video game on this podcast i'm not a gamer i'm not an expert i do know who hideo kojima is he's obviously one of the signature game makers he's a huge cinephile huge person on constantly sharing his opinion of movies on the internet uh and he co-wrote this movie with jordan peal so this video game sorry but his video games are so she's a part of that too i feel like she's gonna be a big star oh i think so as well if anything i thought this was a little bit low but then yeah but it's also like when you when you see everything else i don't really know where else to put you but this has real watch this space energy very much yeah no who's number 32 25 years old yeah yeah uh she's also 25 inches tall that's just because she had to stand next to jacob lorty okay it really is he is an optical illusion in many ways we will come back to that um she's been a lot of things pacific rim uprising one of my favorites bad times at el royal on the basis of sex who's gonna be on the basis of sex she was 80 year old with remarkable performance i think she's a great answer oh that's right then army hammer was the husband that's a tough scene uh vice mayor v sound famously the craft legacy priscilla yeah and civil war yeah she's gonna be an alien romulus you excited about that you know that i am yeah uh she's not producing this list very very promising yes very promising exciting holds her own civil war 2 in a movie with some much more seasoned actors um she also was on devs which is i think how she got in what's the story there so she got cast in devs by alex garland and then alex garland cast her in this and kirsten dunst after working with her recommended her as sophia coppola um i like her a lot she's super talented number 31 this guy's never been on the list before and this is another one where i'm like this does seem low i think it's just because we've never put him on i don't know why we've never put him on i feel like that's just an error well i think it's a little bit of an error and it's a little bit of like we can read the list of things that he's done with it's quite a cv yeah but also like with the exception of anna karenina and i would argue savages they're either like weird interesting but not quite their movies or he's a supporting part aka and he's great and i don't understand what happens in that part of the movie well kick ass i mean he's the star kick ass was a big movie we're talking about aaron taylor johnson who for some reason despite literally touching the marvel universe the kingsman universe start you know having a part in a nolan film i've always also thought that he was miscast in anna karenina yeah but um that's that's i think he's amazing in that movie i love him in anna karenina i know um he's got a really big year coming up now yeah but but but craven the hunter which has been moved yeah let's let's just go he's gonna be the fall guy this friday okay he's a supporting part of the fall guy he's having a lot of fun in the movie and he does that wonderfully like he shows up in these big movies as a supporting guy who's having a tremendous amount of fun and he is really fun he's really really good at that uh then he has to be something called craven the hunter who is he hunting often spider-man oh he's a spider-man villain who's gotten his own origin story okay this is kind of a madame situation oh no oh okay so it's sony and they can't say spider-man it's sony they can say spider-man but they can't say peter parker why couldn't they name the child in madame web i don't think there was a reason for that i think that was just a creative choice that was made in the film madame web craven hunter is moved twice now it was supposed to come out last october yeah and then they moved it to this august and then they just announced last week that it's moving to december i thought i saw that as a sign of a sign of approval for craven opening december that's usually a better time to open i honestly saw it as they he's uh married to sam taylor johnson and i thought they just want to get it as far away from back to black as possible they may need to yeah i still haven't seen back to black but that's how i interpret it i was like oh you just don't want to be anywhere near that they should airlift it as far away from that film um he's also going to be noseratu yeah which is uh really exciting robert eggers when we come this christmas and you know we're two years into james bond speculation five years i mean people have been citing that he is an obvious bond choice for a long time he's 33 years old now he got to start a long time ago he's been in movies since he was like 14 so he's got the look um he's a tall white handsome british guy yeah with a little bit of attitude that's kind of the bond archetype a little bit of sass a little bit of smart right you want this one we've talked about this before is he convincing you i know because i think they need to be imaginative with what they do with bond again and you know watching monkey man i was like oh damn tell like would be so amazing but you know he should just maybe make his own version of bond without all of the like bond bullshit that's attached to it um so it's you know it's kind of hard at this point maybe aaron taylor johnson is the right fit because you don't want to waste too many resources on james bond you know just financially speaking or or just like charisma speaking you know dino craig was just like please please put me out of pasture by the time he was also like they broke several of his knees one thing i'd like them to do which i don't think they're going to do but just a one-off with tom hardy like i don't need 10 with tom hardy but just like if they announced it as a special bond story and we let hardy get a little freaky but not too freaky yeah i mean i'm with you yeah okay number 30 who is it josh o'connor my guy big big big weekend yeah what do you think the takeaway is from challengers um josh o'connor size and uh people like in tennis and sex in the movies josh o'connor size number one yeah you know they're powerful it's interesting analysis uh wonderful actor he's come up quite a bit on the show in the last few weeks and it seems like a lot of people know his name now they maybe didn't know his name 8 12 16 weeks ago fair to say yes okay he's got a movie coming out soon with uh another person on our list i'm curious how we're feeling about the other person i won't say the other person is the movie's called the history of sound but just this year he's been in lucky mara and challengers um number 29 i would say this is a generous hold for us here yeah kiki palmer at 29 she hasn't made a movie since no some of it was out of her control she was supposed to be in an aziz ansari movie which then got delayed right because of a controversy with bill murray that probably would have been out by now but now that movie is finally coming out at a different studio so very funny premise sick ass aziz keanu reeves seth rogan and kiki she plays aziz's romantic interest i think which is very generous casting for aziz um for aziz and she's also been a movie called pick up which is an annie murphy movie coming out later this year yeah she was 18 last time she's 29 she looks like a kid i was gonna say that's i mean that's the other thing is that she just kind of i think she took some time away yeah so that's part of the usher thing remember when she was in usher she was in vegas and she saw usher and then her then partner was like retweeted her and was like why are you you know looking so good with usher you don't remember any of this and then he was revealed to be like a very bad person i believe so now that yeah anyway she's had a lot going on team kiki palmer she looked great at the usher concert how many times have you retweeted your partner a few times but seldom like calling him out in soft sci-fi movie not something you typically love in the first place where a couple couples can have a scientific test conducted by a private company where they have to have their fingernails removed and put into a machine and it will determine whether or not they are a true love match do fingernails go back they do yes so so you would do well is there anesthesia after this is there anesthesia no they're just pulled off no no no no i wouldn't do that no you would not this movie stars you're not familiar with the film no this film this is apple on jesse buckley jernie allen white and resummit oh um and it's about to tell you right and it was it's a very noble try no it was not yet thanks for reminding me of that um an interesting movie doesn't really work she gives a great performance in it haven't seen with the letters the reason she's on the list she's dropped from 21 to 28 but she's going to be the bride in maggie chillenhall's the bride love it which is a seemingly a reimagining of uh bride frankenstein this is notable because there's another bride on our list coming later in this episode i just love jesse buckley as you know maybe my love is kind of interfering with her rent placement on this list but i feel okay about it i mean she's always doing something interesting i agree i agree fingernails is a cool idea yeah this doesn't totally work she's 34 so this is her last speaking of 34 yeah dakota johnson yeah should she be on this list she was previously 26 so the fact that she only fell one spot is interesting there she is i mean yeah she was mad webb i would say in terms of bringing attention to the movies dakota johnson still excels this is why she's on the list you know one of our chief marketers yeah she is very good at giving weird interviews and maybe being in on the joke and maybe not and that that gray area of unknown that she brings to the table nothing like it not since who i can't even think of a single person who's been able to do this she's really special uh she has been making some shitty movies yes um mad webb was not good her persuasion remake absolutely not no wow cha-cha real smooth sometimes you try things and it doesn't land no i wish it maskell everywhere and like that by association has elevated her she's like making movies yeah she was also in spider-verse like she she was big mouth for years so like she's very popular among young people old people got you know all the 40-year-old bros the bear is like favorite show the bear rules don't you need to do that voice for the bear i mean i'm doing an impression of myself okay um the bear is for all of us okay i mean i think it's for like brithley scottheads who want to see stuff in the kitchen but um it's not sure it's absolutely for all of us she's she's wonderful in that show and i she's gonna be inside out too yeah for your my hawk note she's gonna be in lmk which is james l brooks's new movie which is exciting and then she's gonna be in our pal mark anthony green's new movie opus this is the first movie that she's effectively headlining by herself which is a 24 movie so i feel like she's more than anyone on the list kind of triangulating the moment yes like got good taste picking the right projects like it's hard to pick the right animated movie to voice but now she's gonna keep a voice to characters and teams in digital spider-man and inside out too it's pretty smart she's getting all like the primo the pics i mean she also is just like personality-wise like it clicks she's very funny very likable like all the speeches that she had they were awards for tv shows but you're just like oh that's a star like it's just it's like her instagram is very funny she also enjoyed challengers and the score you know she's like plugged in and you see it happening oh yeah she's very good at that yeah well she was but now she's in the tina fae zone of not being able to yeah yeah did you did you watch that video that last call teresa's video oh yeah having an opinion is like it's too expensive yeah you you you're living the opposite you're like how rich can i get from having opinions right that's true but that's what i'm not trying to create anything i'm america and that's fairly recent so she's kind of like been in the tabloid she's she's become a household name not just because of her movies in the last 18 months so she's got a lot there's a higher level of awareness for her also she was she had blind driveway dolls which didn't really work as a movie but was kind of the first time that she was really out front on a movie like that um she took a very bold choice with an accent that maybe didn't work but we appreciate the effort um and also she's been in the nice guys once a time in hollywood you know claire denine movie stars at noon sanctuary poor things she's just been in a ton of stuff over the last five years she's about to be in another yorkos on the movie kinds of kindness she's about being a movie that's going to premiere at can called the substance which is one of the more hotly tipped movies corley fargat's movie co-starring opposite demie moore um and then she's going to be the next ethan colin and trish cook movie honey don't which comes out next year she's got a lot of stuff like that plus she's been defending jack antonoff from you for the last i wonder if she and the next person aren't a bit too high oh interesting maybe the next three people well no the 20 is i think right the 20 is a new edition is like a fluke of timing i want to do this okay but 22 is dave jones who was in obviously normal people which was released four years ago this weekend because she was celebrating that anniversary four year anniversary yeah with like a lot of pictures that's my first boyfriend she's got a blackbuster for both the summer she gets to remind people of why they love her and but it was it was very obvious and then she was in fresh which people on instagram seem to really like and i see a lot i see a lot of clips of it you know a great premise not and where the crowd dancing which was just a fascinating so that movie which is abhorrent um is the reason why she's on the list because that movie did huge business for a literary adaptation right um that was dropped in the middle of the summer and made over 100 million dollars and she was the star she was absolutely along with mary dickinson i would say the movie was sold on him um and she's now about to be in twisters and on the force is another kind of hotly set movie that might be coming out next year uh and she's the co-lead of twisters she's in the hell and hunt part opposite the bill paxton and glenn powell right but she is also like desperately tweeting to remind people that she was in normal people four years ago you know so like the cultural relevance even though we're the crowd dancing can you tweet in a way that is not desperate um yes i think so but now you're famous or known you are you're incredibly desperate at all times all posting is desperate from us or from but if you're just are you saying i'm not as famous as yeah but you do still have a platform of sorts and then you're going to twitter and letterboxd like share other feelings and that's desperate why um because it's like you have so much to to put out in the world that you can't fit it all in one place how beautiful you described something so lovely you gotta stop sending emails that would be lovely i love to email i love to post do you love email no i have a pretty severe email style i do i do and it like leads over to text sometimes as well it's like am i getting a business text from sean or am i getting a friend text from sean really like the capitalization changes it's so hard to just be near me in any way it's really a challenge people don't understand the emotional labor that goes into just like fucking dealing with you day in and day out tough road for you he really had some struggles number 21 bill scars which is like a first name that you wrote into the document we're essentially doing this list so that you can talk about bill scars who is like a member of the wonderful scars family which i enjoy he's the first person i thought it was like we've never talked about him on this episode before and now i feel it's appropriate that he's on the list i don't think that would have been the case when he was just being pennywise five years ago right but now when you realize that he used pennywise to basically create like a persona he's kind of doing what john malkovich was doing in the 90s where he's like i'm only playing heels and i'm chewing the scenery now he's doing franchise movies more often a little bit of tricky timing because boy kills world his movie just bombed hard over the weekend as i understand it's not his fault sounds like that was just a poorly made movie but um he's 33 years old he's been in the it movies he was in eternals he was in barbarian fantastic barbarian he's very very fun and effective he's so good yeah and this year he now has a crow which is coming out in august and he is nosferatu and robert eggers nosferatu they showed the nosferatu trailer at cinema con yeah yeah okay well that's because it's real it's very it's very exciting i'm excited for you you know christmas is a time of water for us don't be mean you can do anything you want but don't be mean just try it i think those scars are super talented i think he's wonderful i'm a fan of all scars cards this is one where i was like should be a switch to probably by the time we get out of the star of a lot of movies he's pennywise like by the time we get to nosferatu we might switch it back unless aaron taylor johnson does become James Bond but like right now you know what i mean i'm putting money down that nosferatu's gonna be a big hit that's cool he's 21 i'm not making any changes number 20 yeah jodie comber so you know she's probably still best known for killing eve because that first season was so incredibly successful right it seemed like such a phenomenon i didn't realize she was also the star of a series called the white princess it was on stars i think for three seasons i think i watched some of that so yeah they are do you want to hear about this on stars they basically started doing the tutors but for all of the women who came before like going back to it so it's like historical fiction going back to the war of roses that before it's always like centered on a young woman who's learning about sex somehow even though you're not supposed to but but also historical intrigue but she was the star of the show right yeah i think so i don't remember which one the white princess is okay um we'll be watching that like catherine mary or something you know elizabeth he's in days back then okay uh she's in free guy she's an abomination she blasted to the sun uh the last will she's terrific in that movie she is i just watched last night movie that i missed in 2023 called the end we start from which honestly if it had a different studio probably would have gotten her nomination she plays a woman who's just given birth to a child in the midst of an apocalyptic scenario in england there's a massive flood but it is not a disaster movie you never really see the disaster it is just entirely told through it's a little bit of kind of not quite that dire but just a very sad intense movie not the most fun watch she is incredible i mean just like it is it is a display of one of her kind of her range as an actor you know she's like a lot like quippy zippy wild gals in movies and tv shows and this is like a really meryl street movie basically with her right uh that she's excellent and then now upcoming she's in the bike riders which i've seen and i think she's the best part of the movie and it makes a really bold choice in the movie and i thought it really worked um i can't i actually can't imagine the movie without her even though it's got the great character iconography and tom hardy and all these great actors like feist she's amazing bike riders and which is now she's going to start 28 years later which is the new the reunion about starling and danny boyle and the 28 days and weeks later movies so that's a pretty big that's kind of like her first big franchise thing i think she was not on the list last time just from a fluke of scheduling yeah she was 21 and because the last duel despite our enthusiasm for it was still kind of covid box office i didn't do very well and yeah so 19 this was these next two were my call you didn't know i was gonna put these on but i didn't protest you didn't protest the first one is millie bobby brown yeah millie bobby brown's 20 years old she's obviously best known as 11 from stranger things sure um but she's actually been in a lot of movies recently she's a big part of the netflix movie strategy writ large so she's in two godzilla movies she's in king of the monsters and but she was cut out of the most recent one her podcast enthusiasm didn't translate did she like step on at the end of godzilla versus congress why is she not in the movie i don't remember she's isn't she kyle chandler's daughter and she's also really into brian tyree henry's podcast yes we don't really get to explore brian tyree henry's like podcast world in this new movie because he just has to go to hollow earth so you think because of the lack of interest in podcasting she was not featured in the film yeah probably more of an actual issue but um she's also been in two nola holmes movies which i find unwatchable but are very successful here in netflix uh and she's also a movie called damsel which i didn't think is ultimately all that successful but again she's like a part of the netflix brand right and then i think the next movie that she's in is the real test which is another netflix movie from the russo brothers their most recent netflix movie was the gray man which stinks but this is the same it's marcus mcfeely the writers of the adventures movies and captain america movies that write movies for the russo's and she's the star of the movie she's very very very very very famous especially she's unbelievably famous whether she's beloved i don't know she obviously really was beloved five years ago and stranger things was in a tay day and she's a young teen star she's now 20 years old movies are getting made because of her so that's an important factor but she's like pure pure maybe not even gen z like the next generation i think technically she's gen z but she has more gen alpha energy yeah that's what they're calling them generation alpha okay um but those those are the people who follow her everywhere you know to me i'm just like that's like a netflix teenager thing it's kind of you know like i barely see it happening but i do see it happening i know she's like wildly famous yeah i see this as an acknowledgement i think i think it's correct you know yeah but this isn't like a passion pick for us number 18 this is a passion pick for me this is really funny taylor swift yeah now the best thing about this there's a couple great things this one is 34 years old notably so this will be her last time she can compete for a slot on this so i wanted to give her flowers i know that you did yeah um these are the films that she's made she was in the film valentine's day she provided her voice with the movie the lorax she was in the giver i saw that in theaters she was the star and director of all too well colin the short film yeah she starred in amsterdam yes david russell movies skipped an incredibly important entry in her filmography oh i forgot about cats yeah and the eras tour yes which came out last year yes which was a big success and that's the reason why she's on the list right she's also reportedly making a movie she's she's kind of a movie star yeah absolutely i think that father had to go over to her at the table when they were both dining i can't remember where la dolce vita is somewhere else yeah it's a restaurant as well as a movie it's a wonderful i understand it's a film they've taken the name la dolce vita i don't know i don't know i don't know what about a restaurant called pulp fiction we can go okay i mean um i feel like la dolce vita is just sort of like a concept and a saying as well you know i don't think elevator shaft ride such a cool thing when you're like 10 years old to experience this years go by no one is complaining about tower terror there's lines out the door every time i go there people in tennessee and then it was like a whole anyway it's just one of those things like one of those movies where everyone is talking as if they like reading from their you know ap english test you know just like such florida dialogue over explained even still i thought jenna was pretty good kind of helped she's good she's good uh she's got a lot of stuff coming out now she's got people just go do clara and the sun death of a unicorn she's in new driver schultz movie she's in something called winter spring summer fall coming out soon she's 32 last time she's 11 now she's only 21 years old when is um and she worked chainmail what do you think was memorable about her not she's also about to be in thunderbolts which is a big marvel next year yeah she's like i mean she's basically the star of that movie i know but they like many people have been freed from the shackles of thunderbolt as i understand she's portraying a character named yelena biloba oh that's her black widow character yeah yeah remember she just absolutely stole black widow because i was running like spider-man now they do that all the time like that's right that's literally what it's like to be me and go to a marvel movie and they're just like hey you're spider-man she's still yelling okay she's can you guess the rest of the cast of thunderbolts it's actually pretty fun because there's some characters from our list so far on here well people have been jumping in and out of it so i don't know i don't know was i was supposed to be in she was but she's not going to get any more yeah and steven again also euphoria cast number on this list yeah cindy sweeney is it's actually interesting because a lot of it is hinging on anyone but you and her incredible fame in the aftermath of the success of anyone but you and also how her it was cindy sweeney's fame and internet presence and like the marketing at all that in many ways propelled anyone put you to the success that it had at the box office because the movie was fine okay and she honestly has many virtues and i don't know whether that style of comedy is one of them well there's something interesting about the fact that i liked her in a few movies i really like her in euphoria i think she's great uh i liked her in reality i liked her in immaculate and usually when she's playing like a little bit more of a chaotic character who's kind of like ridden with anxiety and fear and a little bit of hysteria she's very good at that but anybody was the biggest hit she's been a major part of and that's one where she's doing something different some of it was like it's a tiktok trend and a lot of girls are going together and seeing it as like a party experience but that movie was really really really yeah i mean a genuine phenomenon for that kind of a movie which i think both movies that you like to see i mean that's true but i'm curious to see like what kind of a star she like what she becomes known for because she's done some audacious things like reality and the voyeurs are pretty audacious movies um immaculate even i know you'll never see it but like pretty cool for someone with her power to make a movie like that i don't really know too much about the next couple movies that she's making echo valley and eden but man she seems extremely famous right now yes like the the next generation and kind of the the the broadest reach of anyone like even if you're not like a movie movie person you know about sydney sweeney or certain attributes of sydney sweeney like what but listen she you know she was criticized by some producer i'd never heard of and then was just on instagram wearing a sweatshirt that said like sorry my tits are perfect or something but yeah she did incredible stuff good for her that's pretty good uh number five so this is the one where i'm like i get it yeah it's like the last message of a generation what you've done yeah and she's won an oscar and ben and just many stonefold classics and is jennifer lawrence but she's not doing very much right now i don't think she's tapped to do anything right at the moment she was in our feelings last year which i think the idea of our feelings would be a bomb and anyone but you would be a big hit is kind of is fascinating to me it's kind of flummoxing a little bit i don't totally understand i think it was just better and felt a little bit more like i guess ultimately that is kind of like the raunchy farrelly brothers apatow equivalent to the nora effron energy that anyone but you want to have um but it didn't have a natasha beddingfield yeah it didn't wearing that well i haven't seen a lot of evidence of him to be honest he's mostly just wearing the same chucker hat he's sort of doing like a gosling startorial move which i guess works for him and consistency is good but did you see i added top five gosling movies to the list for the fall guy episode no but that's exciting okay i feel like that'll be easy yeah uh austin butler my take is he's got the juice that is also my take i think he is weirdly captivating in june part two i really really love the decision to do stalin scars guard's voice in the movie uh and i love how annoyed dave batista must have been when he realized that he didn't do that uh he's great as elvis i think all the snakes but i think he's great in that movie um the bike riders he's bringing a very very classical energy to movies that most movie stars are not able to comport you know whether or not it totally works whether the movie works or not i think we can debate when one comes out in june but he and june together are pretty special and then eddington was the recently announced already asked her western that he's gonna be a part of so i feel like he's gonna he's here to say yes he's gonna be here for a while okay so now we come to the trickiest part of the podcast we're headed towards conclusion territory we're in the final three you must be sitting at home thinking to yourself gosh well emma stone's off the list and we haven't talked about three big names was emma number one last time i feel that she was i think so no that's not true last time it was the person that i put as number three this year but that you insist is number one yeah so in 2022 number one was margot robbie now margot robbie i thought that in 2022 timothee chalamet was number one i think that was in 2021 oh i see in 2021 it was timothee chalamet in 2020 it was emma stone yes emma stone's off chalamet's held the number one spot margot robbie's held the number one spot maybe this is just my synchronized mind wanting a new number one maybe it's responding to what's going on in the culture right now maybe i'm holding some things against margot robbie and timothee chalamet but i'm not holding against the other person that is competing which is zendaya so i had margot robbie at three timothee chalamet at two and zendaya at one there's a very simple reason that margot robbie has not opened an original movie ever she has been a supporting character in movies she's an italian very good kind of word nominated not really big box office hit she's a supporting character in one time in Hollywood very good but definitely the third league at best suicide squad comic movie amsterdam disaster we also made this list like right after we made it in anticipation of amsterdam that one oh it was before november no it's an maybe answer them had just come out okay well listen so you're the you are the number one bad one man so i am but i have to be honest that that didn't help her yeah it helped me sure but does any of that matter because of what happened next well i think it's important to talk about because barbie is the biggest movie last year it is like a seismic movie in the movie culture like it's a mega success 1.45 billion dollars worldwide she's the producer of the movie she is the person who said i want credit to do it but this is not 35 producers it's 35 movie stars so do you feel that barbie was the success that it was because of because of margot robbie's movie startup it was a huge part of it and her promotion of it i mean like do i think that margot robbie showing up in like a different barbie costume everywhere for eight months was like a major part of people being aware of that movie and being like sure i'll go to it yeah i do i mean also obviously it's called barbie and that helps like people have heard of that that's to me that works against it sure but i mean barbie is so far and away so much more successful than either of the movies that timothy chalamet and zendaya like have been a part of have quote unquote opened it's like and she did produce it which you know it's not the producers but the power of a movie star be like no no i will make this and i will be in it and this is how it'll be and then it'll make over a billion dollars it's kind of undeniable yeah i think you can be like the smartest person on the list but not necessarily the biggest star i i just i have a clear rationale for this yeah and it necessitates talking about our two other concerns and I would say that the distance between them is like a hair's breadth and you might look at the list like any person who just is on Twitter looks at the list and be like I personally we don't go out of our way to put MCU actors on the list and I feel like Barbie is never a similar category it is pre-branded IP from a huge studio that went all out to promote this movie to market this movie so it's got a leg up on it's like being like I'm in a dress park movie it's like you know obviously she's at the center to make creative decisions and I'm not taking that away from her but it's a very well-known property so inherently that can tell against it I was going to say like Dune and Wonka and also for Zendaya Dune and then what you have is Challengers which is for my money the best movie of the year so far had like a huge deal this past weekend respectfully $15 million is not $1.5 billion even in case it's a disappointing return though people have been trying to do the stats and it's romantic they're in the number one they're in the number one I think like Zendaya is ascendant she will be number one soon I think Challengers is like a major part in it I just still think what you've done 50% of that is Barbie plus she's in one scene in Astro City lights out steals the movie you love Babylon I don't know what to say about Amsterdam but like you know it's a terrible movie I mean just like absolute disaster but the rest of them she's at least making interesting choices and she is like very famous yeah I wonder if she's more famous than Zendaya I genuinely don't know I think it's probably age based if you're under 40 Zendaya is a much bigger deal if you're under 35 if you're 35 and over you're much more familiar with Margot Robbie because you've got Wolf of Wall Street you've got Once Upon a Time of Hollywood you've got like a more kind of Gen X millennial leaning crowd of people who were really like movies that she was in I think more people have seen Margot Robbie in a movie than have seen Zendaya in a movie just like rather worldwide I'm going to screw Jennifer Lawrence too so I don't necessarily that doesn't mean a lot to me like the same way that we're holding against Jennifer Lawrence well but we have Jennifer Lawrence at number 5 even though she has not done anything that anyone has seen in several years where would you put so do your configuration of the top 3 now I'm also in a little bit of a list making mode here obviously so I'm trying to keep it interesting but like what is your top 3 Zendaya 3, Chalamet 2, Margot Robbie number 1 right now I think most people would agree and I think that that will change and I think you know Margot Robbie is both aging out of this and Zendaya is ascendant and I think Chalamet is going to play Bob Dylan in a James Winkler movie and I don't know how people are going to respond to that people love Bob Dylan though so yeah I listen to him all the time honestly every week whenever I'm stuck and I'm like what should I listen to just go to Bob he's my go too because I'm still learning stuff I'm still figuring out the songs it's a great way to go through life just learn about yourself I've just been trapped in this podcast forever so I stay Zendaya 3 if you tell me to it's lunchtime again this wonderful podcast yeah Margot Robbie number 1 those are just facts I understand you want to paint a beautiful list to chisel on the big picture wall to have forever and a part of wouldn't give Sebastian Stan credit for that you know what I mean that's not something in the axis of judgment this being the thing that makes her number one again but in some ways Tiffany Chalamet in Dune is doing it's a much bigger risk I think Dune's a much bigger risk but it's still built-in fan base I also think he gets made a point for Dr. Wonka Wonka is like cynical shit to the bone I know people liked it but that is a choice for building your startup it worked it was smart I just thought it was really cynical you can't tell me that the guy who's like fawning over Martin Scorsese is like I've always wanted to play 19 year old Willy Wonka that was silly seriously that's your own issues that you should work out on your own time I have worked through them and I'm defining clearly how I feel about them but it's all going to be okay this is a guy who's like all I want to do is make a safety about this movie but hold on I need to go make Wonka for six months listen the Kardashian
