Continuing our retrospective of the late Sonny Rollins on this afternoon's edition of The A-Trane Radio Program. We'll sketch his interactions and mutual admirations between Sonny & John Coltrane with a rare Sonny performance of a Coltrane composition Naima!Following last week's 1950s highlights, we pickup with recordings with Don Cherry, Coleman Hawkins/Paul Bley, Jim Hall and Oliver Nelson (Alfie's Theme!) through the sixties. And walk through some of his best Milestone recordings in the 1970s along with his Rolling Stones guest spot and some live highlights throughout!Sonny loved to do stream-of-consciousness performances turning tunes inside out, tossing out quotes and producing an amazing free flow of imagination for extended performances!
