The Abduction & Rescue of Elizabeth Smart

 Elizabeth Smart was 14 years old in June 2002. She was asleep in a bedroom with her younger sister when her life would change forever.Brian David Mitchell broke into the Smart home and abducted Elizabeth.  She was held captive and subjected to rape and abuse.    Brian’s wife Wanda Barzee was part of the plan.  The couple even took Elizabeth out in public - she was photographed at a party months after she was abducted.Thankfully in March 2003, an astute member of the public recognized Elizabeth in Sandy, Utah - even though she was wearing a grey wig and a veil.   Police were called and astoundingly, Elizabeth was reunited with her family.  In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast, we tell Elizabeth Smart’s story and run through her amazing life following her recovery.
