On July 15, 1984, she was out for a training run in the Ulerys Lake area in Montana, she was abducted by a survivalist father-son duo, Don and Dan Nichols, who planned to force Kari to marry 19 year old Dan. When she didn’t return to the ranch she worked on, a search party set out to find her. When two of the searchers found Kari tied up, a chaotic scene unfolded in which one man lost his life and Kari nearly lost hers. She is only alive today due to her perseverance, resilience, and physical strength.
