The Adventures of Ferdinand Count Fathom Chapter 23

In which a company of gentlemen, under the influence of burgundy, find themselves embroiled in a riotous dispute over a lady's favour at a notorious house of ill repute, leading to a furious quarrel and subsequent challenge between an English knight and a German count. Through the artful mediation of our adventurer, the parties are reconciled, and the evening's follies give way to a more civil amusement of quadrille, wherein our hero suspects deeper stratagems afoot beneath the surface of genteel play.
