The Adventures of Peregrine Pickle Volume 1 Chapter 13

In which the commodore joyfully receives young Peregrine and takes him under his wing, whilst the boy and his companions Hatchway and Pipes engage in a variety of mischievous pranks that unsettle the household, notably troubling Mrs. Trunnion and provoking a most singular conflict with an unfortunate attorney. Their escapades culminate in a frightful apparition that sends the commodore into a panic, fostering superstitious dread of the ominous Davy Jones, the dread spirit of the sea.
