The Amazing Adventures of Amy Carmichael: Part 1

from Stories with Esther & Poppy for GIGI Kids · host Rosie Smith

Hey GIGI kids, Today we have a great story about a lady missionary called Amy Carmichael. She worked in India for many years helping children and did an orphanage so they could live free and happy. Amy's story is very inspirational! Here's a sneak peek: One day, Amy's whole life was turned upside down. Her father's business was forced to close. The financial stress upon him was so great that he became very ill and passed away shortly after. As the eldest of seven children, Amy dropped out of school to help her mother with the younger siblings. So, she began sharing Bible stories with them and inviting other children in the neighbourhood to listen. She also started visiting the slums where the poor people lived, yet her greatest burden was for the poor girls working in the flour mills. They were known as the "Shawlies" since they couldn't afford to buy hats and wore shawls instead. For 14 hours a day they worked in terrible conditions and for very little pay. Amy wanted so much to bring them to her church, but she could see how unwelcome they were. What happened next? To find out, find a comfortable spot and listen to the episode. _____________________________________________________ Story by: Rosie Smith READ STORY ON THE BLOG VISIT OUR WEBSITES SHOP OUR BOOKS SHOP OUR AUDIOBOOKS Special effects editing: James Wagner  Music credit: http://www.purple-planet.com/  Email us: [email protected] Write to us: GIGI KIDS STORIES PO BOX 6505 Upper Mt Gravatt Queensland Australia 4122
