The American Tragedy

from Existential Cloud Hopping · host John M. Castillo

A tragedy (in theatrical terms) is defined as a play dealing with tragic events and having an unhappy ending, especially one concerning the downfall of the main character. In this episode I attempt to delve into this idea of the American dream while incorporating my own experience as well as the writing and novel American Gods by Neile Gaiman. Is this American Dream a tragedy? I feel like although we do perpetuate a dysfunctional Americana, we do leave some wiggle room for change and progress and individual liberties. But can you feel the squeeze? This episode doesn't answer this question but I discuss that there is hope and we can change our national narrative but to do so we'd have to make many sacrifices. I think, though, they'd be worth it. God bless, and happy MLK Day. Your pal, Johnny
