With police detective Al Sintella now convinced the threats are real, Johnny heads to Greenwich Village to track down Bill York, Amy's estranged husband and the beneficiary of her life insurance policy. York, a bitter and struggling writer, reveals that he pawned his unpublished novel to Mike Pomeroy, Amy's agent. Though York claims he hasn't seen Amy in months, Johnny remains suspicious.Following this lead, Johnny visits producer Emery Taylor's apartment, where he encounters Taylor's wife Dora instead. Over drinks, the brittle and jaded Dora makes a startling confession: she herself has reason to harm Amy, whom she believes is having an affair with her husband. Dora also reveals that director Dave Coleman was once deeply in love with Amy and made threatening remarks when rejected, though he's since gone silent on the subject. As Johnny's list of suspects grows, the investigation deepens into a tangled web of jealousy, resentment, and dangerous secrets.
