The AP Poll Completely Forgot the Big 12... Here's All You Need To Know In College Football.

The AP Top 25 poll continues to suffer from a stubborn institutional bias that systematically suppresses the Big 12, treating the conference like an afterthought while inflating the margins for traditional brand names. Even after a statement opening weekend where programs like BYU and Utah put on masterclasses, the voters in the media pool refuse to adjust their priors. You see elite, battle-tested Big 12 standard-bearers lingering outside the top tier, while uneven or unproven rosters from the SEC and Big Ten are gifted generous real estate simply because of their conference logos. It’s a self-sustaining cycle: poll inertia keeps favored programs high regardless of weekly execution, while Big 12 contenders have to climb an impossible hill just to earn national respect. When the voters prioritize pre-season media hype over actual on-field dominance, the AP poll stops being a meritocracy and turns into a protection racket for legacy power structures.
