The Apostles' Creed - Seated at the Right Hand

from Oklahoma City First Church Sermons & Devotionals · host First Church OKC

The third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;       from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. During this season of social distancing, virus induced panic, and financial instability wouldn't it be nice to know someone is in charge? Sure, the President, Governor, and Mayor have all issued statements and guidance. Certainly lead medical professionals have given advice. Absolutely community and spiritual leaders have tried to lead with grace and intentionality as non-anxious presences, but isn't there someone in charge? This section of the Creed points to the one who is truly in charge:  God the Father. As Christ is seated at the right hand of the Father He is seated on the judgment seat, the seat of advocacy, the seat of authority. God the Father is in charge with His Son at His right hand. The Trinitarian God of the Bible is in charge.   This week at Oklahoma City First Church we will be examining this section of the Apostles' Creed and we will see what it means to say that God is in charge. We will discover the ramifications of God's sovereignty and how that speaks to the health crisis we are currently facing. I hope each of you will join us online in worship this Sunday. You can find our live-streaming worship service on our website here or on our YouTube channel here. If you go to our website you will have the option of live chatting with your fellow congregants during worship so you can connect with one another. If you go directly to our YouTube channel please make sure you go to the particular link provided above. Our previous YouTube channel has been removed. Please subscribe to our channel because when you subscribe you will find it easier to find our posted videos in the future. Also, don't forget about connecting to Sunday school through Zoom. Please be watching for more digital content in the future. During this global epidemic we will be communicating and connecting with one another digitally. We want to stay in social contact with one another so we will be doing that digitally. Also, be watching for a special video I will send out on Monday about some plans moving forward regarding how we can better connect with one another, especially with those who do not have access to technology, the elderly, and those at highest risk with this virus. Again, I look forward to engaging with each of you Sunday morning.  Pastor Lesly
