The Arctic End of the Chelyuskin (1934)

“Three Russians, two airplane pilots and a professor, are in Juneau this afternoon enroute to the Arctic to attempt rescue of 89 marooned men on an ice floe.” The Daily Alaska Empire, March 20, 1934. It was definitely noteworthy news, the Chelyuskin rescue, if successful, would be the largest-scale arctic rescue in history.
