The Arks of Poland: The story of Polish ocean liners in Peace and War.

In the 1920s Poland was engaged in rebuildingitself as a nation on the world stage. The eyes of her leaders turned towards her merchant marine and the ships that would fly under the Polish flag. In this era the pride of any nation was most visible in its grand passenger liners suchas Britain’s Queen Mary, France’s Normandie, and America’s United States. The construction of two ships for Poland’s GAL shipping line meant that she was able to project strength and pride into the North Atlantic passenger trade. This peacetime rebuilding program would unfortunately run head first into the cataclysmic Second World War and the ensuing Cold War. This provided a historical stage for these ships and their crews to write themselves into the pages of maritime history. Tune in to hear their fascinating stories.
