All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one. MATTHEW 5, 37 (NIV) Conversation with God and people is an art, and mastering it can change our lives. In the fifth chapter of the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus says, "Let your yes be yes, and your no be no. Anything beyond this comes from the evil one." With these words, the Master encourages us to be simple and sincere in our communication. Prayer should be authentic, humble, and full of trust in God. In our relationships with others, we should be guided by love, for as the Evangelist says in the twenty-second chapter, "Love your neighbor as yourself," with respect and truth. Empathy, active listening, and assertiveness with a cheerful spirit are qualities also promoted by psychologists, as they enrich our communication. Speak from the heart, listen attentively, and always stand in the truth. Avoid words of frustration, for those we speak to also carry difficult emotions within them. Do not kill others with eloquent silence, for it can be as constructive as it can be poisonous. We have the keys, so are we ready to unlock all the barriers in the car of our life?
