Johnston won the 2017 International Book Award for Best Short Fiction for his debut collection, Friday Afternoon and Other Stories. His short fiction has appeared in numerous magazines and literary journals. The editor of the Short Story America anthology series of contemporary short stories, he lives in Jacksonville, Florida and Beaufort, South Carolina with his wife, Stacey, daughters Brooke and Taylor, and son Nick.Bill: “Some people run from their demons; others sit down and have cocktails with theirs.” William R. Hincy is a man who does and writes about the latter. Having become a writer after deciding it was the only sensible thing for a problem drinker to do, Hincy aspires to use literature to connect society on an emotional level through characters who no longer create messes but have instead become the mess. Hincy has won the American Fiction Award and been named a finalist for the Eric Hoffer Award and two International Book Awards. Without Expiration, his personal anthology of short fiction, was named one of the Best Books of 2020 by Kirkus Reviews.
