🌸Episode: The performing and creative arts space has been one of the hardest hit sectors According to America for the Arts Artists performing and creative artists are among the most severely affected workers by the COVID-19 crisis. 62% have become fully unemployed. Nationally, our sector is  expected  to lose $50.6 billion in income in 2020. Findings are based on 19,600 survey responses. 94% of performing and creative artists report income loss.79% experienced a decrease in creative work that generated income (61% a “drastic decrease”).66% are unable to access the supplies, resources, spaces, or people necessary for their work.And yet, 75% report their artistic practice has been used to raise morale, create community cohesion, or lighten the COVID-19 experience of the community.Now more than ever it is important that performing artists have multiple streams of income including starting a business.🌸ABOUT OUR GUEST: Jenny Madruga Chavez is a wife, mother, singer, voice teacher, and music educator. Ms. Chavez graduated in 2018 with her B.M. in Music Education, and  B.A. in Art History from Arizona State University. She is currently continuing her education with voice teacher Stephanie Weiss, completing the Masters program in Vocal Performance with an emphasis in opera this coming Spring. Both singing and teaching have been passions of love for Jenny. Her latest singing venture was playing Atalanta in ASU’s Xerxes and training at the Taos Opera Institute during the 2019 season. Jenny has been teaching privately since 2018 and loves watching her students grow as they discover their voice. Most recently, Jenny combined her talents in art and music to open her art printable shop, Sing Pretty Designs.
