On New Year’s Day 1915 Badsha Gool and Mullah Abdullah opened fire on a train of civilians, injuring seven and killing six. The men were Afghan cameleers living in Broken Hill, committed to upholding the values ad ideology of the Ottoman Empire. The attack was the first terrorist attack to take place on Australian soil and whipped the local community of Broken Hill and the nation at large into a frenzy. A spate of mob violence and discriminatory laws followed in the wake of the attack stirring up a whole host of questions.
