In the early 90s I designed my own website out of necessity, working directly in code, in the pure semantics of language itself, with no visual tools between me and the structure, learning through trial and error. That same period moved me into digital media, where I went from photography into animated images and learned to build the machines that produced them. These past few years I have been doing the same thing again, building this system by trial and error, applying that same discipline to a new structure. I have always applied the technology available to what the moment actually needed, and that is exactly what I see now, building according to our own needs rather than the needs a platform decides for us.
