The Background by Saki First published in 1911, my copy was published in 1948 and given to me by my grandfather probably 40 years after that. It's one of those beautiful old Penguin books with yellowed pages and a cracked spine and that smell of old wisdom. But the stories are of course as fresh and delightful as a glass of Pimm's with apple juice and fennel.
