The Balancing of Time Around Others and the Need for Solitude

from The Renegade Writer's Mouthy Musings · host The Mouthy Renegade Writer

“Sometimes, I need some time on my ownSometimes, I need some time all aloneOoh, everybody needs some time on their ownOoh, don't you know you need some time all alone?”I love those song lyrics, from one of my favorite bands, Guns N’ Roses, from their song “November Rain.” I understand them. As a writer who puts 12-15 hours into his writing and podcasts every single day, while living under the same roof as 4 other young and older adults, I get it. I need solitude, much of the time. Mooch is the only one in the room with me for most of my workday. I love my family. I greatly enjoy the time we spend together. But I couldn’t do what I do daily if people were constantly around making noise. Weekends when they’re off work and school aren’t the easiest to deal with. But I power through it, and it’s balanced out because our home is quiet most of the weekdays.I was thinking about this today and how it relates to people around the world. There is so much suffering going on because of the Trump regime. War is a motherfucker. And I so feel for these families that have no peace, quiet, and the feeling of safety as we Americans do.Thank you for listening to this one. I appreciate you lending me your ears, as always. I hope you’re having a good balance of time alone and also feeling loved by others this weekend. © 2026 The Mouthy Renegade Writer.
