The Banquet Table

from Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church · host WEPC

Have you ever arrived at a banquet or a special event and been surprised at the beauty of the table that has been set up for the occasion? Sometimes, a decorative “centerpiece” draws your attention. Sometimes, it’s the place settings. And, sometimes, it's the food itself. In Psalm 23, we are reminded that the Lord prepares a banquet for us. There is a sense of intentional care and hospitality, as well as a feasting on the goodness and provision for us there. But even more than that, we are reminded that God’s presence itself is nourishment, and the bread of God’s presence is experienced in the “goodness and love” that follow us all the days of our lives. This wonderful table is set for us even while we are surrounded by difficulties. Not everything is perfect, nor are we assured that we will never have to worry about our enemies. But we are reminded that as we pass through dark valleys, we are taught that God is with us. God comforts us. God provides for us. God is our shepherd. Like David, who knew about the relationship between a shepherd and his sheep, God desires to be in relationship with us. And just like a shepherd does everything in his power to provide for his sheep and protect them, God seeks to provide for and protect us. May your heart be refreshed and encouraged as the Lord, your shepherd, prepares a table for you today. Grace & Peace, Pastor Aaron
