The Battle of Diu That Sealed Portuguese Supremacy in the Indian Ocean

In February 1509, off the coast of Diu in modern-day Gujarat, a Portuguese fleet of about 18 ships faced a combined force of Mamluks, Ottomans, Gujaratis, and Venetians in a battle that would determine control of the spice routes for centuries.
