The BBC and Iranian National Identity - A Long Distance Podcast

A podcast with: Salour Malayeri Kaveh Abbasian This is a podcast that Salour Malayeri and I decided to record after watching BBC4's documentary series Art of Persia (June-July 2020). We discuss various aspects of the series, especially the Orientalist approach at the core of the Iranian nationalist ideology that forms the basis of the narrative of the series. That said, it is not necessary to have watched the series in order to be able to understand what we are talking about. We discuss the Persian language and what has been called "the Persian revival", Iranian exceptionalism and the Iranian Aryan national ideology, Iranian national identity and the construction of the modern Iranian nation-state. Due to living in different countries (Scotland and England), we had to record our voices separately while chatting on Skype; hence the title "A Long Distance Podcast".
